re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

this is dumb. I mean, I get what they're trying to do, but calling it a quadruple-A studio is just... nonsense. And if/when the studio releases something, far too many nerds will be pitting this "AAAA" game against others, saying things like, "Well, I don't see how this is any different from the best of the best AAA games" because, more than likely, it won't be.

Microsoft's loved the "AAAA" thing for a while. They've used it at least as far back as 2012.

Oh wow, I never saw the 2012 one. Any idea what game that ended up being for? Ryse?

It's only a price increase if you want to play it on both consoles...

They don't have the pricing on "just next gen" though. That 59.99 is only current gen. There may not be a way to buy a non backward compatible version of next gen.

Exactly. Therefore you are paying $10 more for next gen. This will be the new norm

Yeah, sounds decent at first but it's kinda bs. It starts out as a "Blu-ray + Digital Copy" type incentive but after a year or two in last gen titles will be phased but the price increase will remain.

Activision says in their Call of Duty FAQ that there will be:

Next-Gen Physical Standard Edition – PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

  • PlayStation 5 Standard Edition: Includes the PlayStation 5 version of the game on disc. The PlayStation 5 Standard Edition works on the PlayStation 5 console with a disc drive. This version of the game will not operate on a discless PlayStation 5. For a version of Black Ops Cold War that is compatible with the discless PlayStation 5, please refer to the digital Cross-Gen Bundle.
  • Xbox Series X Standard Edition: Includes both the Xbox Series X and Xbox One version of the game on disc.
...and they've included cover art:

Anyone think, Microsoft will lose many consumers just on the base of how huge this console is? I will be getting it, but i’m like, where do i put this thing? Don't think it will fit sideways in my tv entertainment shelf. (Can this be laid sideways?) Set this on the floor? I’m a bit perplexed that made it this size. Unless it has to be, because of how powerful it is according to Microsoft? Just seems like a huge design risk. But what do i know.

Yeah.

I've basically resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to have this next to my home theater shelf rather than on it.

Both consoles are very large because of the cooling that is required.

re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Looking at that One S to Series X side-by-side, it looks like the XSX is about 2.3 times wider than the One S. Using arbitrary MS Paint skills:

So this will fit just fine on my entertainment stand, on its side, because my stand has about enough room for 4x One S's stacked in terms of space for each shelf. Obviously, this isn't the norm. But at least I know it'll fit!

You left off the price, which was the point of debate. These will be 69.99.

I quoted what I was replying to:

Just indicating that, yes, there will be a way to buy non-backward compatible versions of each game. They're both up for pre-order at bestbuy.com, and even though they're $69.99, Best Buy is giving $10 in rewards with it.

As long as it works the same horizonal, no. That is how I plan to put mine in my entertainment center.

Right, I wasn't saying you were hiding info, just that the standard price is going to be 69.99 even without the PS5 version being able to work on the PS4 (which the digital will allow).

It's like 2 GameCubes duct taped together! Literally!

Yeah that wouldn't fit my new setup vertical but should be fine horizontal whenever I get around to getting one

If you think they're going to lose customers over this size, then Sony is in for a rude awakening as the PS5 towers over the XSX.
The XSX can be laid sideways, so that's an option for people who can't have it standing up.

(estimated size based on USB port and optical drive):

You're not wrong. At least the Xbox is a box... the PS5 looks like something we'd have seen in 2003 by an overzealous designer who likes stingrays; that thing doesn't even want to lay on its side but will have to for 99% of us who want it to fit in our entertainment centers.

I think the PS5 looks fine. Its just 1/3 bigger than the norm. PS5 basically looks like an XBOX 360 XL. 😄
