Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Fingers crossed the Series X will be back in stock this week?

I was ready to buy a bunch of Ultra HD discs for my PS5 but now reading only Series X can read 4K discs

Do any of you guys use the Series X to play Ultra HD discs? Does it play well or should i get a standalone player?

That's not remotely true. Both can.

Yes. It's fine. Mine is particularly quiet compared to the PS5. Just no Dolby Vision for movie/show discs, but that applies to both consoles.

I thought the PS5 would be considerably cheaper since you can use any of a number of SSDs and they don't have to be branded like the Xbox one. Turns out they're all more expensive (if you buy one with a built-in heatsink). And right now they're nowhere to be found as well due to pent up demand and only recent ability to expand. Guess I shouldn't complain about the cost of the Xbox one.

actually Best Buy has two top ones for the same $219 price as the Xbox one, but they're both totally sold out.

Any PCIe Gen 4 drive with a read speed of 5,500MB should work. Even with a separate heat sink it can be had for less then $200. You don’t need a FireCuda or a 980 Pro although they are really sweet. There’s a video on Linus Tech Tips about it.

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

I ended up getting a WD - WD_BLACK SN850 1TB Internal PCIe Gen 4 x4 Solid State Drive for $199.99. That is the same SSD (minus the Heat sink) that Mark Cerney recommended and the totally unavailable heatsink-included one was IGN's Top Choice. At first I was reluctant to buy a separate Heat sink because I'm not a tech-savvy guy. But watching videos it looks dead simple to do and I found a compatible one at Amazon for
$14.99 $14.99
.

No question, things are WAY easier on the Xbox side -- buy the only card available, at any retailer, plug it into the slot in the back. Enjoy.

It’s after the fact but Newegg at the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus for $180. If you wanted to splurge the 2TB is $360. Applying the heatsink
is easy. It’s peal the plastic and stick on the drive. Just make sure it’s shallow. That drive well doesn’t look deep.

Hope it changes soon, but it’ll be worth the 2 or so month wait if not.

As long as people on Amazon say this heat sink fits in the PS5, there's nothing else to worry about, right? The SSD is a standard size (as long as it's one sided).

Just reminding you all how much better you have it!

ALMOST COMICAL

Sony's messy PS5 storage expansions prove Xbox Series X was right

Seeing Sony's documentation on expanding the PS5 storage suddenly makes the Xbox method extra appealing.

Yes but lengthwise the drive can be either 30mm, 42mm, 60mm, 80mm, 110mm. Technically they are all standard. 22mm is the most common width so that’s not an issue. Just make sure the heat sink matches the drive length. The drive you got is 80mm so it will look like that picture. A 110mm would fit the entire slot.

The MS Store changed it up this week, selling Series Xs at 6 PM today instead of Thursday.

it says free with GP on PC. Does that mean not free on Xbox? That’s weird, no? I kept trying to install but nothing…

Yeah, like it says, free on PC. Maybe it will be free for Xbox later, we don't know.

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Ah. That’s kinda weird though, no? Why if GP, not free for Xbox as well? For a 6 hour game, but with great voice actors, not sure worth $25. Someone play it and let us know…

I didn't realize it was free only on PC. The app is showing me it is available for free on Xbox.
