That looks nice. Very compact and modern.

Not sure we'll be buying right away, as we're likely going to get the PS5 next if it does the full backwards compatibility that's rumored. Our One S is doing pretty well for us now.

Being locked in to Game Pass until at least September 2022, buying a new Xbox is basically a given, personally. Not sure I'd go all-out on the Series X or wait to see if there's a mid-range option. I hope they keep the UHD disc drive and add Dolby Vision support for it. It's lame that DV is supported by so many of the streaming apps, but not by MS's own Blu-ray app.

Xbox Series X Will Support Backwards Compatibility On Day One

Your legacy will transfer too, including Gamerscore, Achievements, and game saves.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-series-x-will-support-backwards-compatibility/1100-6472261/?ServiceType=twitter&TheTime=2019-12-16T19%3A10%3A21&PostType=link&UniqueID=B4939DA4-2037-11EA-A4B4-FF95C28169F1&ftag=ftag%3DGSS-05-10aab8e

So both the PS5 and now the XBox Series X will offer backwards compatibility. Nice!

Xbox Series X backwards compatibility will support every generation of Xbox.

https://www.gamesradar.com/xbox-seri...n=buffer-oxmtw

This thing sounds better and better. Microsoft stated in its conference that Xbox Project Scarlett will support games from all four generations of Xbox consoles, which means original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games as well as next-gen games.

Unless they are adding disc support too, they are already doing this today.

re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Yeah, that was expected. What needs to be clarified is if they'll support every OG Xbox and 360 game that was added to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list, or if it'll be a shorter list than that. By all measures, it should be the full list, since all the work has been done.
And then, if it will support every single Xbox One game... it damn well should, given everything we know... but it would be a huge disappointment if there's some games that don't carry over.

(I didn't read the article yet... I'm just sayin'...)

But also... I really hope they can somehow tackle the 360 games that never saw the BC light. I'm talking about Remember Me, Scott Pilgrim, and a handful of others. Pilgrim is basically an impossibility I think due to licensing bullshit... but I hope RM and other games make the cut sometime in the future.

Oh, and the 360 HD-DVD drive. ;)

These are NOT the official dimensions... just speculation. But if remotely accurate, then... maybe not so bad?

As for the size, which is one thing that was left off the table during the announcement, it looks like the console is approximately 15x15x30cm (6x6x12in) in size.
You can compare this to the Xbox One X which has dimensions of 29x23x6cm (11.8 x 9.4 x 2.4 in); keep in mind these are educated guesses, we need to wait for Microsoft to provide the final size chart for the Series X.
I'm not sure I agree that it's only 2x as tall as it is wide, but... we'll see.

Even if those numbers are right, that is a XBX having a volume of 4002 cubic cm vs the Series X with a volume of 6750 cubic cm. That's like 60% larger.

9.5" tall? That's taller than probably most center channel speakers.

It's that near 3x increase in height (if horizontal) that's going to be a problem, I think.

69%, actually! Nice!

Nah, you're right. That's huge when you look at it that way.

Microsoft has revealed that the name for its next-generation game console is simpler than originally believed. It turns out the name of Microsoft's next-gen line will just be “Xbox” and the Series X name is for a specific model of consoles. The news comes from Business Insider who confirmed with a Microsoft representative that the Xbox Series X name revealed at The Game Awards applies only to that specific version of the console.

“The name we’re carrying forward to the next generation is simply Xbox,” the Microsoft representative said. “And at The Game Awards you saw that name come to life through the Xbox Series X.”

Microsoft also confirmed that this naming convention will allow for different naming variations within the next-gen lineup. “Similar to what fans have seen with previous generations, the name ‘Xbox Series X’ allows room for additional consoles in the future.”

I love articles that state the obvious. :)

Also, at XBoxSeX. It's like they're doing it on purpose!

Don't forget the Xbox One Sad (all digital) edition. Yes, their marketing department isn't the best :)

So....the thread title should be, "Xbox: Series X"?

Size comparison to a One X and Pro. They made a mock up console. That thing is freaking huge!

Okay. If it's that big they deserve to be mocked. Good Lord that thing is huge.

It's a desktop. I'm sure if you opened it up it would be config'd just like a PC. They should just call it was it is.

Wow, this makes buying one at or near launch much less of a priority for me.

So is the Xbox Series X just a souped up Xbox One X? I mean that would make total sense, I'm not sure if that's been announced tho.

If so I wouldn't expect any exclusives until the Xbox One is ready to be buried, but the performance difference should be impressive.

That seems... like a really dumb decision, something that Sony would pounce on to gain an even bigger lead next gen. Like that's usually a mistake the console frontrunner would make.

Even Nintendo didn't outright say "the first year or so of Switch titles are basically going to be WiiU ports" even though that's kind of what happened.
