That's excellent--This is my favorite controller charger by far, so much easier to use than others I've had in the past.

That was new to me as well. Don't think I ever had to do that with older Sony or Nintendo system controllers.

Nah, pretty sure that was new last gen and even then, just Xbox One. I don't recall ever having to update the PS4 controller. PS2, Xbox 360 & Wii/WiiU didn't have updates.

Wii U did have updates as does the Switch. So my bad 2 generations.

But this is the 1st controller for Playstation, so 1 generation.

2 generations for Nintendo and Xbox.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Yeah, I have never owned an Xbox and I have a switch but really only my kids play it. I would imagine that Switch updates if there are any for Joy-Cons, go largely unnoticed by my kids, as it would be just like any other update, as the joy-cons are usually mounted to the switch. Not like you have to do anything out of the ordinary to update them.

The PlayStation is my console and I had never done a controller update before. And technically I still haven't, because I don't know what I did with the cable after I set everything up including the charging station. I have other USB-C cables, but I don't really feel compelled to get one out and update the controllers when I can just skip them and begin gaming.

I'm in no hurry, but how much longer until PS5s are readily available - two months, three?
Will it be easier to get a covid vaccine than a PS5?

YMMV. Here in Ontario, Canada, there's a better chance of someone getting a PS5 than get vaccinated.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Guess I should give an update. The guy who contacted me after the BBB complaint didn't call in 3 days so I figured I would just call the regular Sony number. Told the semi-clueless CS rep what was going on. She asked for my error message codes and I gave her the ones on that screen cap I posted. I could tell she immediately went to the script as if I was a newbie. Did you try cleaning the disc? Did you delete and re-install? Did you try rebuilding the database? I told her yes, all of the above as well as two system reboots. She then gave me the exact same garbage dialog about how they are "still investigating" the issue and don't send it in because they wouldn't find anything wrong and sent it right back to me. Then she went through the other error codes and started giving me the same lines about those errors as well. I, as politely as I could muster, told her "I know you are just doing your job and are told to stick with your script, but I have been dealing with these issues for two months now. You guys aren't investigating the issue, you're just trying to put the problem off. My PS5 doesn't play ANY PS5 games at all. The last time I had to file a report with the BBB and I am happy to do so again, but I think that's bad for your company and would just like a replacement instead, because that's what it's going to end up being in any case". She put me on hold for like 15 minutes (though kept checking to see if I was still on the line every few minutes). Then she said since it was numerous different error messages I would need to be repaired. I told her I still have the shipping box, but she insisted that they send another one . So once I get that, I'll send it in...again. And then wait for another replacement.....again.
Spoiler:

One question I asked her but don't know if I can believe her answer : I saved my daughter's game saves for the first PS5 (*5.1) with the system back up to a USB drive. Then when I got the new system (*5.2), I restored my data off that USB system restore. Do you think there's any chance that there's some sort of bug that I brought over from 5.1 to 5.2 and that is what killed my second system? The reason I don't think so is that I am getting different errors with 5.2 that I never had with 5.1 (as well as my old friend CE-108255-1), and I can't even launch a game now on 5.2, while on 5.1 I could always launch games though several would crash after several minutes of gameplay.

My guess is they are not actually fixing anything in the refurbs being sent out, and just go through what they scripted you to do at home, check that it turns on, and out it goes.

What makes you think they even have refurbs? Or even sent Decker a refurb?

It happened again Decker? Holy shit. That leads me to believe there is some sort of corrupted save data that is being loaded.

Could be this or something to do with his account or something. It's so weird. How strange and disappointing this whole situation is for him.

Maybe try a factory reset, etc. etc. and then just log in with your kid's account (or create a generic new account, just don't use your own at all), and see what you're able to do...? I don't know. I'm surprised they haven't at least issued some sort of debug code for people to run on their systems and send logs back to them.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I wish there was some sort of a technician I could talk to about this. The CS reps are just doing the very basic here but somehow there's something else going on.

In any case like I said this is different than the last unit as this one went from working perfectly to being unable to launch any PS5 games while the last one would crash intermittently after a short or moderate duration of time, from the get-go.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I found my first PS4 game that I can't get to work on the PS5. True Fear: Forsaken Souls Part 2. It starts up but I can't even get past the start game menu. The in game cursor doesn't line up with the options so I can't start it.

^ I thought I found a game that didn't work a couple weeks ago. Flower. I booted it up and the analog wouldn't work. I won't tell you how long it took me to realize that Flower was a motion game.

I managed to get it to work by using a Dualshock 4. You have to use the touch pad as a cursor and it doesn't recognize the Dualsense one.

Did everyone else's system start glowing white rather than blue when on? There's also a new white light on the controller?

wasn't sure if it was new or not but yes, I did notice the controller just has a small white light on the bottom of the touchpad instead of the glowing sides.

The sides of the pad started glowing blue as they usually did but only when I started a game. In the menu, only the new smaller white light. Thought I had an issue with my console when I saw white instead of blue but it loaded fine.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I watched mine yesterday. The blue light appeared and turn on and seemed to continue through boot up. When it was up and running though it was white.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Got my second "coffin" and have sent off my second PS5 corpse. Will see how quickly this turn around will be....

I asked this before, but bringing it back to see what you guys think :

Do you think there's something in the backup settings and game saves that can kill a new system if it's installed? I don't know if I should bother doing the restore on my newest PS5 when it arrives. Would be nice to save my screenshots and my daughter's game progress, but not at the expense of killing yet another console.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

^ yeah, I would avoid plugging anything into it or restoring any save files, just to see how it plays as a totally new system. I'd even go so far as to create a burner account just to get the system up and running and try playing one of the problematic games.
I can't really figure out HOW the existing files/restore settings would screw it up so bad, but stranger things have happened.

I think you should avoid plugging in the usb drive in general. External drives seems to be the source of numerous issues on the thing.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and I wish these damn PS5 systems were easy to come by. I want to pick one up. Hopefully with the holidays gone, availability starts to pick up.
