Decker, another option you could explore is, depending on what credit card you used to buy it, you could contact them about getting a faulty / damaged product and either reverse the charges or sometimes the bank will insure the product. I, for one, would sure as hell not allow Sony to have my money at this point. I'd put the credit card company to work and let them manage this debacle. Might not work but in our case, we spend tons on our credit card to accumulate points... comes in handy when shit hits the fan and I need their support. I always have had success reversing a charge and getting results.

Reversing the charges sounds messy and would totally screw any chance for Sony to fix it. I will give them another week or so and then call them again.
In other news, I got Dirt 5 in the Best Buy B2G1 deal this week. Not only does it actually play on my console without crashing (thankfully), it does a very cool job with the adaptive triggers. You really feel every bump and puddle in the road in you index fingers. Even can feel the ABS brakes as you corner. It’s a neat effect and I am kinda stunned that Xbox didn’t include the feature in the Series X. Makes it feel like a next-gen experience. Can’t imagine buying racing games on the Series X unless they are console exclusive.

The adaptive triggers feel broken for me with some games. It feels like a gear is slipping or you hear a strange click sound from the controller. This happens with the Ubsoft games like Watch Dogs and Immortals. And it does the same thing with both of my controllers.

I don’t experience that trigger clicking with Immortals, at least before it eventually crashes. And I can’t even get out of WD Legions loading screen before it crashes my system.

FWIW, I hooked up the 2TB external HD, put all my PS4 games on it, and thus far have had zero issues. Fingers crossed, but so far so great, $75 well spent.

It appears that I own and still want to play two of the elusive PS4 games which don't work on PS5. Neither Alliance Alive HD or 13 Sentinels would install. Both are JRPGs.

edited to add: I don't see anyone else saying that 13 sentinels isn't compatible, are you sure it's not some other issue?

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Doesn't seem like it. I connected my external with PS4 installs and neither game worked. Both gave a "can not install" error. I may try to delete the data and install fresh off the disc but I'm not hopeful. All my other games work perfectly fine.

but man all these issues in general do not inspire confidence in my as-yet-unopened purchase. Although a lot of issues like I posted before seem to come from using an external drive.

Hmm; potential good news! I will try to install it again from scratch. I've played 4-5 other PS4 games off my external so far and they all worked as expected.

I guess I am going to wait until the first of the year until I can find a controller charger. I found an off brand one at GameStop last week and it wouldn't even charge, so I took it back.

Why do you need a charger when you could just plug it in via USB?

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
I spent a frustrating hour on the phone with Sony. I got transferred to a manager. They are just fucking obstinate. They insist that this error code isn't a hardware issue and that I just have to wait for a fix. I told them that I have a $500 next gen console that won't play next gen games and I am very unsatisfied with that answer and they flat out don't care and refuse to do ANYTHING about it. The supervisor straight up told me that "Rome, for example, wasn't built in a day". Yes, that is actually what she said. So rude and unhelpful. I have so soured on Sony as a company. This is inexcusable. They won't repair, they won't replace, they won't give an estimate of a fix. They just say that they're aware of this problem and they are "investigating" a solution for the few people affected. It's such an unacceptable situation. I am furious.

You might just have to do a charge back for a console that doesn't work the way it is intended. Too bad for them that they will likely lose a loyal customer. Well, loyalty only goes so far.

I'm not doing that. It opens up a huge can of worms that I don't want to deal with. I just want them to take responsibility and fix it. And I want people to know what shits they are being. There are thousands of articles about Cyberpunk's issues which are minor by comparison. I want the gaming press to cover this story. Anyone have and idea how to do that? I can't seem to figure out how to send a message to Kotaku or IGN. Nothing is going to fix this besides bad publicity.

You can tweet at Kotaku’s editor in chief at http://twitter.com/stephentotilo , and his email address is linked on his Kinja page. It might also be worth reaching out to Ethan Gach, who wrote The PS5 Is Kind Of Buggy Right Now for Kotaku.
IGN has an “editorial and content inquiry” form. And I guess Tina Amini might be the person to contact at IGN?
Searching Twitter for those sites’ handles and the error code, other folks have definitely made them aware and don’t seem to have received responses one way or the other.
I’m baffled by the silence. Polygon, GameSpot, the gaming writers at Forbes, and Jason Schreier at Bloomberg might also be worth reaching out to.

I don't think those error codes can be fixed by a patch. I think they are hardware related and will require a replaced system. Just too many small things that have to work in conjunction to have a fully functioning system. Sony is just blowing smoke up asses. I think they are doing a piss poor job by trying to create new customers, scalpers, instead of taking care of those that showed support on day one and ended up with a bunk system. They could easily cut their losses and replace the thousands of broken ones out of the millions they have sold instead of trying to push everything out and ignoring the problem.
