Whoa, that's pretty fucking cool. I'd rather have rubber texture like some of the Xbox ones, but still pretty cool nonetheless.

I do not look forward to justifying both this and the Series X.

How much do these cost? Why do they look like that? Wait, you're mainly going to play games from the old systems?

The impressions from the people who have been playing the pack in game Astro's Playroom have been incredibly positive saying one of the best pack in games ever and a brilliant showcase for the controller.

I am already catching it from my wife when she saw a picture of the PS5. She asked does it come in black because the TV and other game systems are black. I said no, not right now, but i'm sure they will in the future if you would like me to buy another one. She gave me the look and walked off.

In-store might be tougher than usual this year. If this email is legit, Best Buy (at least in Canada) wonít be carrying any units in-store at launch:

There have been all sorts of murmurs about another round of Xbox preorders before launch. I havenít been keeping up as much about the PS5, but thereís more than a little demand:

The Japanese tech company pre-sold as many PS5 consoles in the first 12 hours in the United States as in the first 12 weeks for its predecessor PlayStation 4 device, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said in an interview.

Yeah, I am seeing that as well. I don't know, they're the only ones selling these right now. I guess they'll fix their site better soon maybe?

Well...I donít have a system pre-order, but I do have a pre-order on the headset and the remote. Maybe Iíll just collect accessories for a while.

Ha, I kind of feel like the headset was harder to preorder than the system...

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Inconsistent HDR format support in PS5 & Xbox Series X

Xbox Series X will support HDR10+. It will also support Dolby Vision for streaming and gaming (later), but reportedly not for UHD Blu-ray. Sony has yet to announce Dolby Vision support in any form for PS5.

No Dolby Vision for UHD Blu-ray

Both next-generation game consoles will support the HDR10 format throughout the system, meaning streaming apps, gaming and UHD Blu-ray. HDR10 is the base format supported by all HDR-compatible TVs. As for premium, dynamic metadata-based HDR formats like HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, the situation is less clear cut. Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox Series X will support Dolby Vision for streaming apps and gaming (starting in 2021) as well as HDR10+ in some form (via Polygon) – further details pending. However, Xbox Series X does not support Dolby Vision for UHD Blu-ray at this time. That is according to Digital Foundry's John Linneman and a few other reports from people with access to pre-release consoles. Xbox One X had a similar limitation but many had expected Microsoft to bring support to Xbox Series X. Of course, Dolby Vision for UHD Blu-ray could be added later.

No Dolby Vision on PS5?

More surprisingly perhaps is the situation with PlayStation 5. Sony has not announced any plans, at launch or at a later date, to support Dolby Vision in any form on PS5. So it is hardly surprising that Dolby Vision does not work with the UHD Blu-ray drive in the more expensive version of PS5, according to aforementioned reports. This is inconsistent with the Sony's strategy for TVs, many of which support Dolby Vision. Could it be added to PS5 via firmware? Maybe. As for HDR10+ support in PS5, it is most likely out of the question. Sony's TV division has already rejected its arch rival's format. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are not magic bullets and HDR10 should still deliver a great experience if you own a good HDR TV, but it is a little dispiriting to note that such powerful machines lack features found in fairly inexpensive UHD Blu-ray players.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I wonder when the Amazon pre-orders will be updated with an actual expected ship date? As we get closer to the release date, I get more nervous that they will have some excuse to delay our pre-orders. I already have a hundred bucks in accessories and 3 PS5 games pre-ordered. Not about to go through the hassle of canceling them to then have to re-order them again soon after.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Now that's an October surprise! My PlayStation 5 arrived today!

So this is weird: the shipping and tracking email showed up in my inbox after it showed up at my door. Something weird must have happened because there was no advance notice of shipment. This was Best Buy. I mean, it's a local company but still, something very off about that. Whatever it was, the PS5 is in hand early, pic in the spoiler tags!

Spoiler:

Eh, I'm not getting this right away. Maybe next year. Or if we really, really want a 4K player this year. Have fun, y'all.

.
ok then.

dsa_shea, I tend to think that even if Amazon slips on release date (and I doubt it) you'll get it within a week or two, so I don't see a need to panic about returning accessories.

Shoulda gone with the Sony exclusive pre-order and not Best Buy. Coulda had the entire internet falling for it.

I'm looking to get one around January or February.
Should be more readily available by then, no?
