A few tech reviewers who I follow like Justine Ezarik and Brian Tong posted unboxing videos because they got their units in early. But, they later removed the videos. I guess there's some kind of review embargo right now?

I think so. The impression I got is that they can show the box itself but nothing else right now.

i don't understand...what is the fucking secret? they want people to buy their system over MS, so why wouldn't they want to promote and reveal as much as they can to rival its' competition?

Why did Coke never do their own Pepsi Challenge? They didn’t need to.
Sony has always moved at their own pace. Nothing different here.

I'm not sure what content was removed but if it's anything about powering the thing up, Sony probably doesn't have all the patches and online stuff out yet so they don't want anyone jumping the gun. Plus they have no reason to allow people to dissect the machine just yet.

That makes sense. No way they were going to build an online community for this game at $70 per purchase.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
And I'm among those proud few! I'm glad this happened, though. Not just because "free" handily beats a $70 game with microtransactions, but because I know we'll have plenty of people to play against.
It's pretty nuts for this to happen so close to release. Surely the discs have been pressed, the packaging's been printed, and they're just sitting there waiting...

The article says that the game is only available for free on Plus for two months.

Sure. That means if you grab it in February or March, you get it for free. If you wait until April to get it, you're SOL. Like Fall Guys or Rocket League (until recently), if you grab it while it's free you own the popular online game forever. If you don't download it (or a least claim it) during the free period, you don't.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
But yeah... definitely too bad they made this call after those discs were surely produced. Maybe they'll bundle them with PS5s after April 2021.
In different news, my Target pre-order for the PS5 is still holding strong, so that's a
Only issue is it says Nov 13-18, and not Nov 12. So I may end up getting it late.

As I write this, anyway, preorders are back up at Target. And you'll get it next week too!

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
what's the general consensus on trying to get a ps5 without a pre-order? Seems unlikely that there will be any more online/shipped sales before release day. With the NES/SNES minis, I had good success using the Target/Walmart apps early morning/middle of the night, and ordering for store pickup when the overnight inventory got added. any other ideas? not in a big enough rush to camp or cold show up to stores at open.
