Yeah Extra is a great value in particular if you are coming into the ecosystem fresh (ie: you have no games). Not so much if you have a library that includes a lot of the titles.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

That's a solid starting list tanman. Lots of others potentials, but the only one I would consider essential among that list is Ghost of Tsushima.

I played Last of Us for the first time last year. I did not pony up for the PS5 upgrade and the game still looked amazing.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Does DLC for Playstation games generally get shared with other accounts on the same console. I thought it did, and my google searches seem to indicate it does, but we are getting the Disney Dreamlight Valley DLC and it's not appearing on the 2nd PS account user (I have all the primary setting setup correct, she can see all the games and such). I thought DLC was shared too, but maybe not, or maybe it's just this game.

Edit: She can see the Lake DLC, so it must be something with this Disney game. Grrr....

Thanks for the heads up. Picked up GT7.

These are, hands down, two of the best narrative games released on any console. Regardless of the versions you buy, both are phenomenal games.

I know this is a spicy take around these parts, but the lowest tier (Essential) has been made to be of little value for anyone who hasnít been subbed for years. The free games are sometimes big titles, sure, but I donít find myself compelled to play much that have been offered since the PS5 launch; sometimes because I already played them elsewhere, or sometimes because theyíre just genres I donít bother with anymore.
The second tier (Extra) seems to absolutely be worth the upgrade though, particularly if you can find a good deal. The value of Premium depends on what you want to play, but just know youíll have to stream legacy games to your console and if your internet has latency issues, that may be a useless feature.

itís more than sufficient albeit I find it a bit loud when the disc is spinning. You will NOT get Dolby Vision from any discs though. The same goes for Series X; they both have that limitation.

Ghost of Tsushima is one of my absolute favorites. Itís glorious on PS5, too.
I love the first Horizon game but barely touched the sequel.
My wife and kid loved Hogwarts Legacy.
Demons Souls & Returnal if you want a serious challenge I havenít played the latter but have an itch to dive into it over the holidays.

Finally, Alan Wake 2 is all the rage, and you donít really need to have played the first game (or Control, another game I adore) to get into it.
I do not understand the appeal of Baldurís Gate 3Ö but itís just a game thatís Not For Me.

Shit, and the A Plague Tale games. Amazing.
Ah that's too bad about dolby vision. I thought the PS5 was DV capable? Or is it like something stupid like Samsung not wanting to pay to license DV in their TVs? It's kind of funny that I care since I'm still rocking a circa 2009 50" Panny plasma . But with this PS5 it might be the impetus to finally upgrade. I've been putting it off because my TV is still 3D and I have a decent collection of 3D media and I really am not fond of LCD TV's and prices of OLED TVs keep falling.

Wow, the games list from PS+ is quite extensive for the Extra and Premium levels. That might be a great way to get in on a big library right away. But then I don't play through games very quickly so I may just end up purchasing them outright. I assume it's like Netflix? You have access to them as long as you pay?

Much like Netflixís studio movies, they could be rotated in and out. But first party games are likely to stick around.

sometimes you have to go into the primary account and load the game up to "install" the DLC. usually if its DLC, thats part of the game update and gets activated by buying it with no actual DL from PSStore, if that makes sense?

Dolby Vision is available on Xbox for streaming apps, but not for disc playback iirc.

No DV at all for PS5.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I got the Pulse Explore wireless earbuds today. On one hand, they're kind of big and cumbersome. They look a little funny, but are surprisingly light given their size. The case is way bigger than it should be, given the size of the earbuds, but it does look cool and slides open. On the other they sound GREAT -- Much better than even the Pulse 3D headset. Sound location (which is used a lot in Spider-Man 2) is spot on. It works really well with the PS5 and I pared it with my phone and music sounds much better than even with my top of the line Galaxy Buds Pro 2's (though the big charging case would make them far from ideal for listening on the go).
I haven't tried them with the Portal yet. Will do so tomorrow I hope.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Awaiting Amazon to ship my PS5 but thought I'd ask something here. My last console was a PS3. I was delighted when an update to that console allowed me to disable trophy, friend login, and message alerts while I'm playing a game. Came I do the same on the PS5?

Maybe this will help: To mute all notifications temporarily, go to the control center and select Notifications, and then turn on Do Not Disturb. Pop-ups for notifications don't appear on-screen until you log out of or restart your PS5 console, or until you turn off Do Not Disturb.

You can also follow this guide to turn them off completely: https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming...fications-ps5/

Thanks, lwhy? That Allow Pop-Up Notifications toggle is exactly what I was hoping for.

Would be nice if third party accessories manufacturers made a cover like that available for purchase. Same for the controller cable.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I'm a little surprised I spent more time on my Xbox than my PS5. Although I wouldn't have guessed I'd spent well over 500 hours gaming this year! (I guess I have to wait for the Nintendo version to find out what the actual numbers is, but I spent 100 hours on Tears of the Kingdom alone, so...)

Not going to bother trying to run the wrap up. I'm sure there's nothing on it. I haven't played a game in over 2 years. I keep telling myself that I should get back into gaming, but I just don't have the desire anymore.

Yeah, You need to have played at least 10 hours and have full data analytics on. I got nothing... again!

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Apparently I only played maybe 5 games on my PS5 this year. And I don't think I spent that much time playing Fall Guys (but did leave it running for a while). Played a ton of DMZ on the Xbox One, as well as a good amount of NES Retro games on the Switch and Mario Wonder.

Not gonna post a screenshot but apparently I only played four games (Resogun, Tiny Tina, Spider-man 2 and Shatter) this year for a whopping 150 hours. I played some Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart, but I guess gaming took a backseat to reading this year.
