Now, I'm trying to decide whether to spend $15 to replace the ear pads or just pay $49.99 and buy a new headset.

I decided to buy the ear pads and to try swapping them out.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Good luck with ear pads. This is another argument for having a dedicated earphones/headset thread. I’d do it myself but am anal enough to want to quote various previous responses on the topic, and that sounds like a lot of work.

Does Playstation Plus games that are due to be released today follow the same New Zealand time zone before they are uploaded for downloads?

Cool free addition from Sony.
Doubt there's any movies I don't already own, but it's a nice feature for most.

The Core app is the same thing that is available on Sony TVs. Hopefully it works better on the PS5.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive Ė 499.99 USD
PS5 Digital Edition Ė 449.99 USD
Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive - 79.99 USD

The new PS5 has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models. There are four separate cover panels, with the top portion in a glossy look, while the bottom remains in matte.

Is this the first time a slim console has been more expensive than its predecessor?

seems so.

also, Iím sure itís just an oversight, but the blog fails to mention expandable storage via M.2. Surely, that slot hasnít been removed.

They charge more. Take away the vertical stand. But hey you get a few more gigs storage.

To be clear, the Disc version hasn't changed in price. Just the discless one, and in that case it comes with the ability to add the disc later, something the Digital-only version did not. So not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I wonder how many of those drives they actually expect to sell. Could be a psychological tactic: look the new slim without the drive is cheaper, let's discount it on Black Friday and sell a bunch to people who will take the cost savings because they can always upgrade later. Show 'em they don't need a disc drive and lock them into our digital ecosystem. Or worst case scenario make a profit on more hardware.

True.
If they kept Discless* the same price, then getting that version plus the add-on would be cheaper than just buying the Disc version. Bumping the base price $50 seems about right, all things considered. It'll still sell like hotcakes.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Okay, I have a question about PS5 games in Japan (if any of you have knowledge) And please no snarky remarks. It's genuine curiosity.

I'm heading to Japan in about 2 weeks for a quick little vacation. I'll likely pop into a few electronics and video game stores while I'm there. Are there any PS5 games worthy of purchasing over there? Something that might not be available here? Obviously I know there is a likely language factor and playing something from there could only have Japanese text and audio. Or are pretty much all the games there the same as here, just here it's in English? Like maybe a fighting game not available here?

I've always wanted to pick up a Japanese baseball game with all the major teams on it. But, I don't think there is one for the PS5. I think there are a few for the PS4.

Here is one for the PS4 from 2019. I don't know if it's still available there and if it's even compatible with an American PS5. If this can be bought for cheap in Japan and works on a PS5, then great.

If you have no knowledge, that's totally cool. Or if it's not worth picking up anything there because they can already be bought here for about the same price, then that's fine as well. Just wanted to hear some insights from anyone who has better knowledge of games directly from Japan. The exchange rate is really good for Americans right now. $1 is 148 Yen. So there is potential for some deals.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

PS4 games aren't region locked (though DLC is). The one thing I don't know is if that particular game works on the PS5 because IIRC there are a handful of PS4 games that don't (I highly doubt it won't work though).

Seems like you could get it from playasia but the PS4 version has kept it's price up (46.99), It will certainly be cheaper if you can find it there with the exchange rate alone.

But Amazon seems to have it for 28 bucks:

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I imagine baseball games are very text heavy so not knowing the language would make it tough just to get through all the menus and stuff unless you want to spend a ton of time using the internet to translate and get your way through it.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I have that game and can confirm that it does work on PS5.
Be warned though, the menus are completely in Japanese, so you will be constantly using Google translate with your phone. Even the player names are in kanji or whatever which is annoying.
One cool thing about it thought is they added the 2020 version of the game for free, so when you boot it up you choose between 2019 or 2020 game.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

If you’re into the likes of Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, etc., check out City Shrouded in Shadow. It only got a release in Japan for the PS4 and isn’t the least bit English friendly. It’s also unavailable through the usual online resources like PlayAsia, so being in Japan could make it a lot easier to track down. It definitely works on my PS5.

I used Google to translate the conversation options (which are more for fun anyway). While it’s definitely low budget and a bit janky, I couldn’t resist that many tokusatsu franchises in a single game, and the ground level view of giant monsters and robots duking it out feels really unique.

Part of the Disaster Report series, you’re a regular person just running around trying not to get burned or crushed while caught in the middle of these battles royale. Oh, and escaping the Yakuza and falling in love and unlocking goofy cosmetics.

It's this game, right?

It's on amazon but again, expensive. But at the very least if you save the cover it'll be easier to show the person at the store.
