Last sale, in April, it was 25% off, so you are likely right. They usually do a BF sale and a Days of Play sale every April.

Ugh. I really want to drop from Premium to Extra, but I'm on my subscription for another year or two. Bummed about the high increase.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I was debating dropping it anyway, so Sony made that decision easier. I can't recall the last free game that I actually played. It'll be a shame to lose cloud backups but it wasn't that long ago when that wasn't a thing anyway.

I'm pretty sure you can still stack memberships at the current price if you want even if you aren't expiring. But again, I'm hedging on that. If you do, you can get it via PSN but go get a bunch of costco PSN cards (if you're a costco member) or something similar for at least some discount.

I caved and pre ordered a Portal. I ended up selling my Steam Deck since I used my Switch WAY more and it was collecting dust. It cost too much to be sitting around not used. But for $200, it'll be nice to play my PS catalog remotely.

During the last sale I switched to Premium and stacked, so I am good until the end of June 2025.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

After buying another 12 month other day at the $59....I'm tempted to go ahead and stack another...I'm good till 11/2024...but I don't see prices coming down for this weekend nor Black Friday like they once did years ago. We use to see cards dip near $18-$25 even but with this increase I bet we don't see around $65 at best in the future....I sure hope Sony can explain the reasons for this with a supposedly upcoming State of Play that's rumored to come shortly.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

My PS+ is good till May 2025. But if I have to pay more than $60 (which I've actually never had to pay that much before), I'm gonna let it lapse.
There's less and less online games I play any way, and the other perks don't do much for me. I think a lot subscribers are in the same boat, and Sony is in for a rude awakening when they see the loss of subscribers when the price increase hits.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Mine expires in Dec. I turned off auto-renew last night (not that it ever does because I always buy a card on black friday), and I am thinking about all the games I can play and if I will need it for any. The only one I can think of would be GTA online and I havent touched that game in a while anyway. Fortnite and PubG are the main online games I play and those are FTP, so as of now I am planning to not renew because I really want to speak with my wallet. If Sony can say fuck you by raising the price so much, then so can I.
And as for the games they give out monthly, I could give a fuck about those anyway. Any game I am interested in I buy.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Just curious if anyone replaced their PS5 Covers with ones that have more vents and airflow....like this one below....and noticed any difference. Other night I heard a bit of humming from mine that lasted a few minutes but went away.I figure it's probably time to pop panels off and do some cleaning but I saw these and was just wondering....

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I got an email today about the Playstation Plus price increase. I bought Playstation Plus Extra last Black Friday for $79.99 ($20 discount) and the regular price is jumping $35. That's a pretty big price hike, I saw this was talked about since August 30th. I'm not a hardcore enough gamer to spend $135 for a year. So I will pass unless there is another deal Black Friday.

It says the price hike won't be effective until November 6th. So I could feasibly renew for $99.99. As it says on my account I can add time. My dilemma is that I don't know how much of a discount they would offer on BF.

If you add time now, it'll be at the new rate. They had to give two months notice, so if your renewal happens before Nov 6, you would renew at the old price, but everyone renewing after that or adding time has to pay the "new" price as of yesterday. Since you mentioned Black Friday my assumption is that your renewal date is after Nov. 6.

Yeah big price increase. Annoying. I'm definitely dropping to the lowest tier (from the highest), which is still $79.99 (and used to be able to find sales for like half that).

I'd be shocked if there weren't still "Deals" for Black Friday, even if the deals aren't as good as they used to be.

I'm already set up through the end of 2025 but as someone who uses the service a decent amount I'll probably still subscribe.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Hello

I was thinking about getting one of those...cool looking vented side panels....for my PS5 since I started hearing a occasional humming sound. I just really couldn't find any real info on if these actually worked or not with some tests like thermals. I finally found this where they tested vented plates and SSD's with heat-plates. Pretty interesting if anyone wants to check it out.....essentialy they did make a few degrees difference but not huge or significant to spend $40-$50 on.

dBrand Darkplates 2.0 PS5 & SSD Review and Temperature Tests – NAS Compares

Also I looked into the Cooling Fan part since I figured that's where to start. Some good simply stuff out there to check on like just popping the side panel off and doing some cleaning but in this video he shows the PS5 came with three different cooling Fans and not all are created equal....so if you want or need to know what your PS5 has and how to access the Fan for general cleaning here it is...

Something weird has been happening with my PS5. Every so often it turns on by itself. I didn't accidentally hit my controller. It just turns on. It happens out of the blue maybe 1-2 times per week.

For the record, it's connected to a 5 input HDMI switch.

At least for me, when I would turn off my TV, it would turn off my PS5. There was some funky relationship with my TV and my PS5 related to the HDMI input. I never resolved it as I ended up putting the PS5 on a different TV in my house. To this day, even with the PS5 not connected, my TV input (an LG OLED) still calls the input "PS5".
