Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
since i bought a black other market faceplate which doesn't have the Sony logo, how do I know which side to take off to install the storage? thanks.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
I assume you have the one with the disc drive? if so, it is the one with the disc drive insert on it.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Power button should be on your right
|
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
You joking now? Was my question so inane? The power button is on the lower middle of console.
|
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
No, I'm not joking, that is what I had read from Sony's site when I put in my SSD.
If you are looking at the front the fatter part should be on the left. |
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
The power button is on the left side of the front when right-side-up and horizontal. Music meant it should be on your right so you know you're taking off the bottom plate rather than the top.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
I’m sorry, I’m still not getting it. My power button is exactly in middle…

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
so you want to remove the panel on the right in the pic.
This is usually done with the console horizontal, not vertical like you have it. |
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
But you said if I had disc drive, that’s the panel to take off. That’s on the left side…

That is the right one.
They are really easy to take off and put back on. |

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Didn't you already install a 1TB before? I realize you replaced the faceplate after that but c'mon.
|
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Gotcha. Yeah I’ve done it once before, actually took both faceplates once I got the black faceplate. But when I installed 1TB SSD I was still using the OEM Sony white faceplate and saw the logo at least. I’ve watched multiple videos now and since I did it once before, I’m not really sweating it. Just want to be sure so I don’t brick the PS5. But with OldBoy, you never know.

You guys know I’m a gadget and accessory nut. I just bought the Backbone One Playstation Edition for Android,( which just came out last week) and tried it last night. It’s a controller that fits on your phone and enables Remote Play. It’s PS branded with their buttons and designed to look like a Dual Sense, but it also works with Google Play, Xbox, Game Pass Streaming, etc. It’s pretty nice and solid with good clicky buttons.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...e299e38c73.jpg I tried it out last night (after taking the case off my Galaxy S23 Ultra, which was NOT easy). It works okay. I was able to play in my bedroom off the PS5 in the TV room downstairs. There was some lag. I could play Lego 2K Drive, but it wasn’t ideal. I tried to play Pinball FX and it was comical how badly it ran. For games with less need for a high frame rate like Midnight Suns, it did work okay, but the text was really hard to read (I ordered a pair of stronger magnifying glasses to use with the screen in the future). But for $99 it’s not bad. I got it from Best Buy and have that extended warranty thing — it’s pretty likely I will return it within the 2 years for a refund or maybe to get the Sony streaming product instead, but for now it’s pretty cool. I can’t imagine it works well at all outside of the house with the PS5. Haven’t tried it with the Game Pass Cloud service but suspect that will work better. |
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
And the 4TB is installed and working perfectly. So nice, I’ll never have to worry now. Thought I had a problem with the HDD, but just a minor glitch.
If anyone wants a perfectly looking and working 1TB SSD, pm me, we’ll chat if interested. |
