Yeah, neither the PS4 or PS5 can emulate the PS3 processor. Which is a little weird considering that the X1 and XSX had few issues running 360 games.

Personally, I would like to revisit some of my favorite PS3 Ratchet and Clank games.

I wouldn't say that, exactly. I remember reading some of the dev blogs (public ones) around the time they released that functionality, and it was actually pretty complex; the kind of thing that requires a very dedicated software engineering team to make progress in a scalable way. I recall that when they figured out they could emulate the core of the 360 OS, that's what truly opened up the project to the point where the only real limiting factor was licensing/IP stuff, and not the tech itself. But it was not a short road for them to get there.

All of that is to say... I think Sony could pull off the same thing, even with the added complexity of the PS3 processor. But they don't have the same... scope.. of a software team as MS has. That's not a dig at Sony either. They're just entirely different kinds of companies, which gets a bit muddled when only talking about their gaming divisions.

Anyway... I think I'm going to upgrade my PS+ Essential to PS+ Premium as a father's day gift to myself. I still have about $130 (CAD) in credit, so that'll cover most of it. Just means I'll have to pay out of pocket when I pick up Stray (I think it looks really good, and my cat-obsessed daughter is aware of it so my hands are tied...)

I just discovered that with PS Plus Premium, you can't stream PS5 games, only PS4 and below. If you select a PS5 game like Miles Morales and hit the Stream button, it just reverts to the PS4 version without telling you. Inelegant to say the least. Thought I could use it to save some SSD space. I guess not.

In other news, I got my plates from Sony Direct and now have the first Galactic Purple PS5 in my neighborhood. Yeah it's hidden in a media cabinet and never even seen, but it looks pretty good.

It's a bit misleading, though...
- the power supply is external- not only that, the entire pump assembly for the liquid cooling is external, too.
- the combined power supply and liquid cooling assembly is fucking massive. Sure he'll just mount it where it can't be seen/heard, but it's a pretty big beast.
Still, how fucking cool is this? I want one!

Some days I'm still amazed at how incredibly lightening fast it is to save games mid-game and to load new games. It's not sexy but man compared to the days of torturous load times, it's pretty dang fantastic.

Yay!! I finally got a PS5. Wario tweeted about it and I got in to the store in about 10 minutes and got that bundle. $602 and change after tax with free express shipping.

I have a couple of questions:

1) How does it ship? UPS or Fed Ex?

2) Is 825GB for Internal storage enough or do I need to buy an external hard drive? I'm honestly mostly interested in sports games, shooters, racing games and fighting games like Street Fighter and MK

3) Is it backwards compatible with all PS4 games?

I'm going to try to quickly sell off my XBox One S that I got 5-6 years ago and all my XBox games to raise some cash to offset the cost. And I don't have enough space for 3 consoles. I rarely play it and it's been mostly gathering dust. I checked with Gamestop and it looks like I can get $60 for the console. So maybe I can get about $80 to $100 with all my games included. I just want to quickly offload it. I don't have the time or patience to hopefully sell it on Ebay, which may not get any interest since it's an old console.

1). It's UPS. And will require a signature.

2) It's enough to start. You may want an external HDD to move the data back and forth. But PS5 games can only be played from aninternal SSD drive.

3) Essentially yes. Almost every PS4 game.

Meaning, a plug-in USB SSD will still not play PS5 games.
A M.2 drive that meets the specs, installed by the user by popping off the side panel, will work.

Right now is a good time to be looking for a internal NVMe SSD...prices have fallen and there's some good deals out there. Have to be a bit careful on the size though; PlayStation has the specific max size to look for plus there's info out there for approved models. Easy as it gets putting one in and well worth the price. I grabbed one from Crucial....might not have the fastest numbers but Crucial has never failed me and I've got several of their 2.5 SSDs as well.

if you plan on playing a lot of PS4, you can get a cheaper external drive and store/play all your PS4 games there. saving your internal for PS5. you can also offload your PS5 games to that external, but can't play them there, need to load back on internal to play.

My new PS5 shipped and should arrive tomorrow via FedEx according to the email I got.

it’s going to be awhile before I can afford many games. I’ll likely get next season’s NBA 2K and Madden when they go on sale.

Afaik, you still get all the free games that come with the system if you sign up for PSN. Tons of good stuff to be played.

The PlayStation plus collection games will keep you busy for a year. There’s 20 free games that you get for buying a PS5.

BTW, success offloading my XBox One S console and about 15 games. Sold them off today at Gamestop for $131 and change cash. I would have gotten $141, but stupid me forgot to pack the old HDMI cable and they charged me $10 for a used one to make up for it not being there. Oh well. I wasn't going to drive back home for a fucking cable. They couldn't take 2 games that they were overstocked on Mortal Kombat XL and Madden 20.

So I'll be using that cash to offset the cost of my new system. Grand total now is $471. Not too bad IMO.

And I already loaded up the new system. It's lightning fast. I also managed to hard wire my internet into it that I forgot I had (it was unplugged from the old system) and it's so improved the download speed from WiFi.
