I mean, the Plus Essential is the same as Plus so I don't see why they would try to get rid of Plus codes. Now codes, sure.

It would be to keep us from extending now to grandfather more plus time into the bigger plan when it goes live.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Anyone having problems with PS4 disc games that have free PS5 upgrades? My PS5 is still trying to install the PS4 version every time it reads the disc. It's getting annoying to have to stop it from downloading every time I put the disc in.

You are probably right:

I hope this is temporary because I'm pretty sure I have some unredeemed cards still.

I have a TV that runs VRR…Xbox is already set up for it. When will the PS5 update with it?

Rolling out this week. Look under Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, and see if there’s a VRR section (between “4K Video Transfer Rate” and “HDR”). If not, reboot and see if it shows up afterwards.

This seems ripe for a legit lawsuit.
Sony straight up blocking service on something customers payed for.

I think moving forward, Sony won't allow stacked subscribing, and may only allow auto-renewal.
Better for their bottom-line.

I was able to fix the stuck R2 button in my controller. Getting that spring in place took me forever but I finally was able to get it in place. The springs that I got might have been the reason too.

Another reason why I'm glad i went with a 32" ASUS Gaming Monitor...now if Sony would allow 1440p and even ability & implementing games for wide screen monitors, be icing on the cake

They've done this so people don't stack their months before the new tiers kick in. They'll re-allow redemption after that.

What a joke.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Do you also have PSNow, or Just Plus?

If you happened to have PSNow before the codes started getting blocked, I think you get grandfathered into Premium for the same length of time.
If you have PS+ stacked, and NO PSNow, then you're only grandfathered into Essential.
But if you have PS+ stacked for years, and only 3 months of PSNow remaining, as long as the PSNow sub is active at the time the new tiers launch, you'd also get grandfathered into Premium.

People are mad because they bought cards -- legitimately, at either online or physical retail -- to stack up before the switch happens, and now they're being blocked from doing so, with no warning in advance. And the cards are still available at retail, with no warning that you can't redeem it immediately.

So it's a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of users who fall into this category, but Sony still felt they had to block them from redeeming their legitimately purchased codes. That's still bullshit, even if it only affects a few thousand users.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I have like six years of PS Plus stacked (maybe just four or five actually) and bought a one-year subscription for PS Now in March off of the PSN store after they started pulling listing on the Store for them, but just before they totally eliminated them. So I guess I win? Is that correct?

Depending on exactly when you redeemed the PSNow in March, you may have been able to get away with a 3 month sub instead of a year, as iyour new Premium sub SHOULD extend to the length of your PS+ sub, since you have both.

So it's like an 80% win.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I paid $59.99 for a one year subscription in March. If that really gets me years of the Premium subscription (as I understand it), that's pretty good in my book.
Here's what I actually have on my Subscription page of My Account :

I have 3 years of PS+ stacked (was gonna stack some more, but then this happened).
Sucks for people how already bought cards/codes and can't use them now.
Corporations just suck.

They can still use them, they just can't redeem them right now. They are still going to get exactly what they paid for.
I lost a whole year of PS Plus once when I redeemed a code to take me X-many years out and their system couldn't process that far out. I called Sony at the time and they game me a case number to call if it didn't activate when my then-three year (or so) subscription ran out. By the time it actually did, Sony had no idea what to do and said that case number didn't work with their system any more. I just had to eat that year's subscription cost.

I hope for those who signed up for PS Now can get grandfathered with the length of time of your Plus subscription.

Not exactly...
take a look at the bottom right.

So if you already have PSNow, and you bought some 12-month PSNow cards to stack up your existing membership, but didn't redeem them before they got blocked, your only options are:
- Use it to get 12 months of PS Plus Essential, which is just the existing PS+ renamed, with zero PSNow features.
- Use it to get 219 days of PS Plus Extra, which doesn't include streaming, but does include PS4/PS5 downloads. So it's like a crippled PSNow.
- Use it to get 183 days of PS Plus Premium, which gets you everything (and more!) that PSNow offers.

I can understand why someone might be a bit mad about that, if they've already purchased the codes.

Edit: All I'm really saying is that this grandfathering-in business could have been much better had they been clear about what they were doing from the start. But blocking existing codes from being redeemed is pretty lame. Not 'legal action anti-consumer' lame, but for the market leader, this is a bad look where they could have had more good will with a friendlier way of upgrading.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I see. I was actually referring to unredeemed PS Plus codes. I do see how those with PS Now codes might be upset, but they paid for $60 worth of content, and are still getting that, I suppose.
If they had, lets say three years of PS Plus and three years of PS Now, would that be converted to three years of PS Plus Premium or to six year of PS Plus Premium? They actually might be better off having not redeemed them yet, maybe?

From what I understand, if someone has 3 years of each on their existing sub, they're getting 3 years of PS+ Premium when the conversion happens. Definitely not six.
If they have codes left to redeem (PS+ or PSNow codes), then they will only redeem at the rates shown in that image.

If the goal is to get as many people as possible Premium, they should be doing what they can to grandfather as many people as possible into that. Like, I don't know... $1 to convert whatever your existing subscription is into the top tier. That would be neat.
