FWIW, despite shortages, Sony reported a few weeks ago that sales for PS5 hardware aligned just about exactly with PS4 hardware at this point in time (13.8 million vs. 13.4 million).

What I donít quite understand is why arenít they shipping directly to stores which would then eliminate the online bots.
The only reason I could see them doing this is if they are waiting for the chips to be cheaper and they are losing their lunch per console. Otherwise why artificially constrain the system that is going to drive software and accessory sales? Maybe you do that if you're not sure demand is there and you want to create a frenzy, but demand is certainly there.

As far as shipping directly to stores, are you saying that it would be better if the stores like Target or Walmart stopped taking online orders? I'd think that's up to the retailer and not Sony/MS, and most retailers seem content in offering them up online only (and now it seems at least partially to drive these memberships).

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Pretty much.
The only ones getting screwed in this deal is the consumer. Well I should say the people that actually want to own the console. Sony is selling units like Adam posted above and store that are both brick and mortar and have a digital footprint, don’t really care how they move the units. They know they’re going to sell.

Iím not sure about other retailers, but at least some Target and GameStop locations have had PS5 consoles for sale in-store.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I saw Wario's tweet after 46 seconds. I went to add it to my cart, waited in their virtual line for over 10 mins, the system had an error message and now it's sold out. Go figure.

I was in the queue for about 10 mins. Sold out. Thanks for the heads up though Adam.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I tried the queue, just to see what was up.
Zero available for shipping, but after verifying my account, it searched local stores for pick-up.
Still zero. So, if they got snatched up, it was within the first 5-10 min.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

This is for a different device, but since there was some commentary earlier about the possibility of artificial constraints from Sony (and Microsoft for the Series S|X):

With lots of pre-orders in place, we immediately placed an order at our factory for all the parts needed for 2022 units and beyond. The response was… sobering. Many of our parts have been delayed significantly. In fact, we can't get any more of Playdate's current CPU for — you're not going to believe this — two years. Like, 730 days.

Here's one way we're working to beat the chip shortage: we've just finished a revision of Playdate's main board (for units made later next year) so that we can use a similar, but more widely available, CPU.

Yeah, I got the email regarding Playdate delay. Thankfully, I'm in Group 1.

You want a PS5? Well, you probably won't get one through 2022. Sony cutting production

Yep...and for that to come out right before Black Friday is not helping. I put my name in for the Sony Direct...trying to land one for my Grandson....but I just ended up going on Ebay and grabbing one with a go-ahead from my Daughter. She actually went to get a Nintindo Switch somewhere last week and said it was the last one on the shelf...asked about the PS5 at 2-3 stores and when she heard how hard to find she was worried...plus his PS4 is like a launch model and last year has been acting up despite taking apart, cleaning and re-building database.

About a month ago, the Toshiba Head made a comment he saw this Chip Shortage lasting well thru 2022 and possibly 2023....because it has to do with primarily the Power Supply....... Current generation console shortage may last until 2023 | GamesIndustry.biz

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Received my confirmation email from Sony yesterday. Looks like I lucked out and will have a chance to buy one today assuming supplies last. With the reduced production I wonder how long Ill have to wait to ship.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Anyone have the 2 next gen systems and a tv with HDMI 2.1, but only 2 of those inputs? I have the itch to upgrade my existing Sony X900F 75" to an 85". The X91J seems to fit the bill, but it only has 2 HDMI 2.1 inputs. And one of those is reserved for eARC. So you basically only have one since I would need the eARC one to go back to the receiver. I didn't want to upgrade my receiver since I have the Sony one that does Atmos and was trying to run everything through the TV now to take advantage of all the new enhanced video features. Current set up all goes through the receiver. Obviously don't want to do that since it doesn't have HDMI 2.1 inputs.

You can't play PS5 games off a HDD, just PS4 games. You know that, right?

As decker stated...even getting a SSD External hooked to USB 3.0, still can't play the PS5 and Enhanced versions....it's the Internal Drive or getting a NMVe SSD which you have to get the one's approved. Right now the average price for those is about $180.00 or so for 1TB. Crucial had theirs on sale about a week ago on Amazon for about $160.00 so maybe Black Friday will give us some sales...

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Finally got one at the Best Buy drop yesterday. Says it should be available for pick up on Black Friday hahaha. Looking forward to playing Far Cry and Resident Evil Village. I haven't owned a PS4 in probably 4 years so I missed out on alot of the later games.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Has anyone put a NMVe SSD in where the heatsink was to tall...and something about the cover wouldn't fit or go over?....there's someone Amazon I was reading about and something about the heatsink was a fraction too tall and they left the cover off but thought that helped with better airflow anyways. I'm probably going to grab one this week...

NM...I ended up finding a Heatsink that will work and went ahead and grabbed the Crucial Stick since it's on sale. I thought about some other brands but Crucial has been around for a long, long time and Memory is their thing....
