Video games that were released late in a console's life and didn't get the recognition they deserved?
 
What video games were really good but were unfortunately released late in a video game console's life and as a result didn't get the recognition they deserved?

I don't know how anyone could remember this type of info off the top of their head. I'd have to go look up every console I ever played and look at release date info for all the games to try and answer this question.

I seem to recall Conker on N64 being late in the cycle. That has a cult following, but was never that big of a hit.

Off the top of my head :), Puppeteer and Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus were both released on the PS3 at the very end of its lifespan and were generally ignored with all eyes on the PS4. I definitely think that Puppeteer was overlooked, despite overstaying its welcome. Into the Nexus was the least of the Future trilogy but deserved better than it got.

Vectorman and Ristar (Genesis) were released in 1995, and seem to be overlooked as all eyes were on the upcoming PlayStation and Saturn. Although Vectorman did get a sequel a year later.

I have mixed feelings on Vectorman back then in terms of hype. I remember it sort of had a built-in "Don't overlook this title!" aspect despite Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot coming in strong over the horizon.

Or maybe that was just GamePro manipulating my brain.

Aside from the ones already mentioned, here are some other older games that tend to be regarded as overlooked because of when they were released:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project (NES)
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES)
Comix Zone (Genesis)
Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn)

Are Super Mario RPG and Comix Zone really overlooked? The prior is considered a classic and the latter is pretty well known for its difficulty (and I had a copy at least when it came out). Maybe it’s just the Sega puts it on every collection of a Genesis stuff.

Didn't the last Mega Man NES game come out like a month before the SNES came out? Former was it that some NES games kept coming out after the SNES came out and they just fell flat?

Lots of solid examples here. Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64), Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn) and Puppeteer (PS3) are all great. Recently, I really enjoyed Persona Q2 and Jake Hunter Ghost Of The Dusk on 3DS. That thing has been overlooked in favor of the Switch for the past couple of years.

Not the first game, no. Donkey Kong Country 3, which launched several months after the N64, definitely.

Scarface: The World Is Yours on the PS2/Xbox in mid-2006. I thought it was better than all the previous GTA games.
