Sony buys Insomniac Games

Sony has purchased Insomniac Games and will become a first party publisher for them.

I guess it’s a certainty that the Spider-Man game sequel will be a PS5 exclusive.

Re: Sony buys Insomniac Games

Cool...and that was pretty much coming. There's some others I'd like to see Sony snap up since MS went on a buying spree last year. I saw where Cliffy B has a game in mind but it be a small Indie Scale. If anything Sony ought to approach Cliffy B and tell they want a Gears of War style game for the PS4....now that would sell like no other...

they've kinda always been a Sony dev though. I guess this makes it official... and yeah, keeps Spider-man an exclusive.

Well they did make the Xbox exclusive Sunset Overdrive which was a rare misstep for the studio. This will keep them all in house Sony now. Hope that means a new R&C game soon. I miss those two.

Are we going to get the same outcry for this that MS got for buying studios?

Re: Sony buys Insomniac Games

I’m guessing that since they have been making PS4 games lately, Sony buying them, doesn’t make a huge difference. If it was a Studio that was making cross platform games, there probably would be.

Misstep because of the exclusivity or because of the game itself? It couldíve been multiplatform or a Sony exclusive. Microsoft was the only publisher that would accept the requirement that Insomniac would own the IP. (Not that it did them any good. No sequels, no merchandise, and now Sony owns it anyway.)

I love Sunset Overdrive to pieces. Just hate the fact that there arenít multiple save slots and no New Game+, so you canít really replay it without signing in under a new profile or completely nuking your save.

Re: Sony buys Insomniac Games

It wasn't a particularly well received game. I think the tone was weird. So "EXTREME IN YOUR FACE" and trying to be funny when it just wasn't. I guess they used the Saints Row 3-meets Crackdown model but I don't think that is what Insomniac does best. I liked Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank 2016 way more.
That said I still had some fun with SO.

Yes please. I'd also like a remastered collection of the 4 Future games that were on PS3.

I have a Fizzie hat that begs to differ!

(I think that, and a "Fizzco" energy drink I never actually drank, were the only things they made...)

(I got both of those things for free. I'd have never paid for them)

When Tony Stark called Rocket "Ratchet" in Endgame, it was my favorite thing in the whole movie.

It's second-hand, but I keep seeing references on ResetERA that Insomniac has confirmed that another R&C is in development. I can't quickly find where they're getting that from. The 2015 game was knocked out in an absurdly short amount of time (something like 8 months, although the runway was lengthened when the movie was delayed, giving them more time to polish), so...annualized isn't wildly unrealistic, if they feel like it!

I also forgot those first two games on PS3 were pre-trophies and they never got them patched in like some other early PS3 games.

Over at pushsquare.com...they have a story up... "Soapbox: Sony Should Celebrate Insomniac's Acquisition With Resistance Remasters" ....Soapbox: Sony Should Celebrate Insomniac's Acquisition with Resistance Remasters - Push Square

I came from the 360 so I never played these so no idea as to their history.....In the same article there's links mentioning these games and funny last August they talked to Insomniac about the Resistance Franchise titled...

"Resistance 4 Is A Longshot But Never Say Never"..... Resistance 4 Is a Longshot, But Never Say Never - Push Square

I'd welcome a Resistance package, having never played the third one.
