If you go back in this thread to Deb's problems, one of the many solutions that she tried might work.

I wound up upgrading to Windows 11, which didn't work, so I basically did a reinstall of Windows out of frustration, which fixed it. Judging by one of the crash logs it got angry at my Ryzen. |
Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has been added to Game Pass. That’s a big title to score.
I started playing The Ascent. It’s a cool and fun little game. |
Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
Death's Door has been kicking my ass lately.

I enjoyed the Pedestrian quite a bit.

Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
I checked out Tunic due to all the glowing reviews and it’s really grown on me. It’s not without flaws, but it really does a good job utilizing its central conceit. For those unfamiliar, as you play, you find pages of the game’s instruction manual that reveal the story, maps and gameplay elements like basic controls, how to level up, how to use certain items, etc. A lot of the visuals and gameplay are very clearly inspired by old Zelda games, and it also borrows a bit from Souls games (though not the punishing difficulty).

Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
Hi all - I have some logistics questions I’m hoping you can answer. I used to have a Xbox 360, but since moved to PS4 and now PS5. However, I wouldn’t mind playing some occasional Xbox exclusive games.
I recon the easiest approach is Games Pass for PC, but this is where my questions come in:
If #1 is an issue I’d consider an XBOX S, but if #2 is an issue it seems like 3 is a moot point unless I were to actually buy that games that support enhanced audio and video. |
Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate

#1 Really depends on the game. Most of the smaller indie type games shouldn't be a problem, but you'll probably run into performance issues with Gears, Halo, etc. #2 I'm really not sure if those features are available on PC games, but they do exist for some games on console. #3 I vaguely recall that, other than wired headsets/headphones, cross compatible wireless ones may be tough to find. I believe, and could be very wrong, that PC & PS5 can use Bluetooth, but Xbox Series S/X use a custom wifi direct protocol instead. But it really depends on the make/model of the ones you have. |

Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
Wow, Xbox calls out Kotaku
|
Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
They have a point. One of the bigger selling points was first party games. They have released like 2 or 3 in the past year. Not everyone wants to play indie stuff or older games. I have it mainly for the AAA. For that reason, it is a losing proposition for me. TBH I am gonna let my sub expire next month, then maybe resub next year.
|
Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
An important part of Game Pass Ultimate is the online play. Otherwise, people would just get basic Game Pass at $10 a month, right? So Kotaku skewed its numbers a bit. Two $60 games a year covers it, or six $20 games. With even minimal effort, Game Pass is still a fantastic value regardless of first party titles. And the codes often go on sale….
Xbox is right to call out Kotaku |
Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
Both arguments have points. Many people will only play AAA titles or even more focused, like the guy saying "I love video games!" and the only game he plays is each year's Madden. But many people (including myself) like to try things that look interesting even if they're not AAA multimillion dollar games. I've played tons of games I would never have given a second glance it if not for Game Pass. Of course, part of that as well is the increased focus on digital marketplace, which doesn't allow resell or return, but that's another story.
There's enough games for each style of gamer, on GP or without. I probably could shift down to GP basic, I don't play Xbox games on my PC or phone, and I only occasionally play online (with my son), but I got deals on codes so net GPU is same price or less then GP basic. AAA is a big selling point, but not the only one. Come for the AAA, stay for the charming indies or mid-budget games that are still fun. I actually really enjoy a nice, slower paced, 6-8 hour game. I need to finish Lost Words: Beyond the Page. I'm not sure about Lost in Random. I love the world and I love dice/card games but the combat so far seems lackluster, and walking around town is sooo slooooow. I'm only in the 2 or 3 land though. I'm currently playing through Guardians of the Galaxy. It alternates between being big fights and loads of interactive story but it has a lot of the GotG personality and is 'charming' so far. (I just started Chapter 4.) |
Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
I don't take advantage of GamePass as often as I should, but when I do, it's mostly for indie games like Unpacking, Rain On Your Parade, Moving Out, Hotshot Racing, Donut County, etc.
Microsoft's release slate on Xbox is pretty bonkers, though. Over the past 12 months: 4 games (Flight Simulator, Psychonauts 2, Forza Horizon 5, and Halo Infinite) Over the past 6 months: 1 game (Halo Infinite) Year to date: 0 games Scheduled for the remainder of 2022: 1 game (Grounded, which has been in early access for closing in on 2 years) I know the story will look at least somewhat different in a couple of weeks, of course. |
Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
I got a few years of Ultimate pretty cheap so I'm happy. I'm a PC gamer exclusively so when it runs out I'll have to reconsider if I want to keep the PC plan or not.
Currently I'm playing Weird West and am enjoying it. Very quirky little game. |
Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
Trek to Yomi is a little janky, and the combat feels... incomplete. But, having said that, I am having a lot of fun playing it. The overall style is beautiful (think of old samurai movies or Kurosawa Mode in Ghost of Tsushima, but you don't control the camera) and when you have a good rhythm going, the fights can be pretty fun. But because of the combat being janky, some fights are needlessly hard, while others are needlessly easy.
It's a pretty short game... I'm about 70% through it after maybe 3 or 4 hours. Perfect for game pass, IMO. |
Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
Have there been any deals on the 3 month passes for game pass ultimate? I’m good to go for a while, but would be nice to max it out again.

Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
Best bet is always to wait for Black Friday.

Playing Tunic. Fun little game.

Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
Good warning. I used PayPal to pay and didn't have a problem doing multiple that way, but it makes sense that credit cards may behave differently.

Re: Xbox Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate
Nice find, and thanks for the share! I picked up 2 orders of 2 each (via Paypal).
They're up to 9 and change today, which is still good. My current sub goes through mid '23 so I'll just add these to mine rather than waiting for it to expire and redo the 1-1 thing. I've been playing Citizen Sleeper. It's not quite as 'wide open' as they make it out to be, but it's an engaging visual novel/CYOA/RPG with an intriguing story. |
