Decided to go with the digital version. I'm pre-loading it now. Should be ready for tonight.

Played it for a bit and the game looks amazing. I'm still getting used to the controls. What was cool is that the game has HDR on the base model. The Pro has 4K. I don't believe it has 5.1 sound, but I'll have to look at my settings to make sure.

I love it so far, too. I’m taking my time and playing it with my wife since we are both big fans of the original.

My copy ended up being delivered yesterday but I still haven't gotten the amazon email with the preorder bonus code.

Mine is out today. I didn't get the preorder bonus either. Was just thinking of calling them...

I won't be playing it until after I finish Doom Eternal (currently at mission 7) and play RE3 so I'll give them the weekend and then I'll call.

I did a chat. The rep first said the bonus was in the package (of course it's not, it's an Amazon exclusive). Then they said wait for the game to arrive. So I will wait and see. Checking around the internet, it looks like nobody got the bonus yet.
I at least found an Amazon site that still confirms that it existed as a preorder bonus :

So their is 3 different codes for the version we bought. Inside the deluxe case is the Cactuar bonus which comes with the deluxe edition. There is the Amazon exclusive theme you mentioned. Then there is the Chocobo chick code which is for anyone who preordered the game no matter what retailer. That is emailed or on receipt at stores.

I got the Chocobo Chick for pre-ordering the digital version. Also got a Cloud/Sephiroth theme.

Amazing game so far. I put about 10 hours in over the weekend. I like the original but I'm not one of those people who feel it was the best game ever. I'd recommend this to anyone; even if you've never played a FF game.

I did the same thing on Saturday and they told they would email me in a day or two.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake (4/10/2020: PS4)

I’m surprised, but I have zero desire to ply this. I was a fan of the original FF games on NES and SNES (why did I rent I from Blockbuster?! Not like you could beat it in 3 days ). Anyway, I enjoyed them so much I purposefully purchased a PS 1 just so I could play FF VII!

I don’t know how much time I put into that game, but it was a lot. As I recall, I was able to do everything except beat a super advanced boss (Ragnarok?) and unlock the Golden Chocobo.

I tried 8, 9 and maybe 10, but pretty sure I never got through them. Plus dabbled with Online. In general I felt like the series got away too much from the fantasy elements and drifted too far into post modern cyberpunk style.

If they adjust the story for 7 to “correct” a key death and dangling plot thread that was rampant on the inter webs for years I might consider checking it out. That also assumes the entire game comes out.

I played this for a bit last night and Cloud is currently in drag. That whole sequence is really awkward but the music and choreography rock, I just wish it had been a different character and not Cloud.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake (4/10/2020: PS4)

I'm really liking this game quite a bit. As a stand alone FF game, I think it's really good, but I never played the original so I can't make that comparison. Surprisingly, to me anyway, I'm really drawn in to the story. Typically, I find the narratives in any JRPG (or most other games for that matter) impossible to follow. The games setting, fantasy mixed with familiar, helps keep it somewhat relatable.

I would've preferred a turn based combat system though. Combat is too frenetic and I end up lost in all the action, and I also don't feel like I'm able to really strategize as much as I'd like.

Cloud was in drag in the original too.

Soldier had a pretty progressive Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy.

FF VII has always been like a game and its sequels tied into one.

Jesus,
Spoiler:
Hell House boss was a pain and tedious. I beat it but had to use lot of phoenix down and cure spell. Magic attack is the only way to fight it. I should have Cloud use magic as his physical attack was weak and useless.

I'm in Chapter 16 now and that was probably the fight I had the most trouble with. Nothing since has been as frustrating, IMO.
