Re: Does the first video game console you owned still work?

The oldest console I continue to own still works...or, well, my original Xbox did the last time I plugged it in. For all I know, that leaky whatchamadoozit has ruined the innards at some point in the past few years. I probably haven't plugged it in since 2013 or 2014. Geez, maybe it's been longer than that, even.

I did get rid of my Atari Lynx about this time last year, and it wouldn't power up with the A/C adapter. It might still work with batteries. I gave it and all my Lynx games to an old friend. Everything else I had growing up -- the Intellivision, the NES, the Genesis -- are all long gone. I gave the Genesis to my sister. I have no clue what happened to the other two.

My Telstar pong still works.

If that doesn't count as a console, my Atari 2600 is still in use.

Re: Does the first video game console you owned still work?

I've had to replace both my NES and SNES with used models when they died after a few years. My 3DO drive doesn't spin up so it's pretty much dead for me. All my other systems still worked the last I checked (Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, Jaguar, PS1/2/3, Xboxes, TG16...)

This would be it. I have no idea what happened to it, but my suspicion would be that I took it apart. Either because it stopped working, or because I got the Atari VCS (2600).

I sold the 2600 with quite a few games for $400, but had to have it repaired at one point.

How did they die?

I still have my original NES PowerPad set. Although I haven't plugged it in in awhile it still worked. I did have to buy a new pin connector and install it because the original wore out. But it was super easy to do and works like brand new now.

I no longer have the first video game console I ever owned. I still wish I had my original NES, but at least I have an NES Classic if I want to play the older games.

I’d check, but I’m not sure how to hook my Intellevision up to an HD TV.

Re: Does the first video game console you owned still work?

My parents were cheapskates so the first video game platform I owned that wasn't disguised as a computer (thank you Commodore 64) was a Sega Genesis I bought after college. Still works and is still set up on an old CRT TV in the basement. Of course getting the cartridges to work is another matter that involves a lot of blowing and wiping of contacts. That didn't sound right.

Re: Does the first video game console you owned still work?

I wish I knew where my original NES from the 80's is. lol

Other than a PS1 which eventually had to be used up-side-down for discs to read, I don't recall ever having a gaming console fail. Oldest I still have is my PS2 launch model. Still boots up fine.

Figure my Atari 2600 has been in some Maryland landfill for at least 20 years. My old NES might be in my mom's garage. Still have my Sega Genesis and it works.

Dunno...

It worked when I sold it like 20 years ago.

Re: Does the first video game console you owned still work?

I sold my first console (original NES) a long time ago, and same with the Super NES. So the oldest ones I still have that work are the redesigned NES with the "dog-bone" controllers and the N64, both purchased in 1996-97. My wife still has her original NES, though, and it works OK.

The NES video card (or whatever technology was used inside) was glitchy, so while you could play the game, whenever it scrolled, the picture vibrated making the games unplayable.

For the SNES, it just flat out died, so it was more of a power supply issue or something inside. Even though it was a couple generations old at that point, I was still able to find a used one (that came from a smoker's home ) for $35 at a local gamestop to replace it.

I've bought a ton of virtual console games on the Wii and ported them to the Wii U, so I haven't had the urge to pull the old systems out in recent years.

Yup, My Sega Genesis still works. The NES was a family system but the Sega was all mine.

As far as I know the Genesis still works. All my other systems too: PS1,2,3,4, all the XBox systems, all NES since SNES, Dreamcast, plus various portables except Wii which doesn’t work at all, and PSP which has a messed up screen.

Re: Does the first video game console you owned still work?

The Atari 2600 that pre-dated me even being a gleam in my father's eye was destroyed and is long gone. The first console that was actually mine is the NES, and that's still up and running and going strong.

Re: Does the first video game console you owned still work?

Wish I knew the answer, but my first few consoles were sold or given away decades ago. I have a 2600 and Jaguar and such now, but not originals. I guess my oldest original video game systems are my old Atari Lynx and original Nintendo Gameboy, which worked the last time I tried them, years and years ago. For consoles, my oldest originally purchased by me would be my Sega Dreamcast I guess, which I hope still works.

Re: Does the first video game console you owned still work?

I got rid of my original Atari 2600 when I got my Atari 7800 since it was backwards compatible.

I still have my Atari 7800 and just played around with it a few months ago. I had to buy a replacement power pack/plug but it still works great. Other than cartridges being finicky but they were always like that.

I don't know the whereabouts of my Sears Tele-Games Arcade, I sold it long ago.

Atari 400 - Should be in a box somwhere, but I haven't seen it in quite some time(and I've been going through a basement full of shit). I might have to go looking for it at some point. So, no idea if it still works.

#2 would be the NES and I don't have any cables for it so not sure if that works either.

^The absolute worst keyboard in history. But I had a ton of fun with my 400.

What's with the joysticks in that picture? I don't recognize them at all.
