*There are weapons that use light, medium and heavy bullet ammo, as well as energy weapons and melee.
* Weapons are moddable...Fire, Shock and so along with upgrading Damage Tiers
*There is a slow-down-time combat feature..like VATS in Fallout 4...called Tactical Time Dilation...to help gain information on enemies
*Characters have different playthru paths...be a charmer to get out of fights, a thief to sneak around or be a psychopath and kill everyone and still finish the game.

Games like this are why I felt like Microsoft buying Obsidian was a great move.
Now I just hope the game will come out stable without any major bugs and problems, which seems to be a consistent problem with Obsidian.

Facial animations look like ass, and j don't like how your constantly pointing your weapon, even in the non-combat situations. The latter issue bothers me more than the former. It's a small thing but I really hope the address that.
Otherwise this looks very promising.

Announced during The Game Awards in December, Obsidian's ambitious-looking first-person sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds is shaping up to be an intriguing blend of Fallout: New Vegas (which Obsidian made with Bethesda back in 2010) and BioShock, but in space.
There's a variety of insights into the upcoming game on Game Informer's YouTube channel (via Eurogamer) at the moment, straight out of the Obsidian's Irvine, California studio, with co-Game Director Tim Cain and Lead Designer Charles Staples providing a few interesting info nuggets on its latest project.
The first video showcases some new gameplay from The Outer Worlds, in which there's even a V.A.T.S.-style slow-motion system that grants valuable time to target enemies. Weapons include typically sci-fi lasers alongside more conventional firepower, as well as novel melee weapons like sledgehammers ans scythes.
These weapons will require maintenance and repair, while companions will also play a valuable role in combat, aiding you in a skirmish by drawing away enemy fire and lending a hand. With a range of RPG mechanics and systems also promised, The Outer Worlds certainly looks promising.
Game Informer also has a second video in which the game's Co-Director Leonard Boyarsky offers his response to the negative feedback that Fallout 76 has been subjected to. Both videos are pretty interesting. The Outer Worlds will be heading to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC sometime in 2019 under Take-Two's Private Division label.

The humor in this one reminds me of the Space Quest / Roger Wilco games for some reason, not a bad thing.

Re: THE OUTER WORLDS: Xbox One / PS4 / PC
They'll be using The Unreal 4 Engine which is fine with me. It might not look as polished compared to a lot of games out there....but it does retain that sort of rough-around-the-edge Fallout look. I know the Outer Worlds vs Fallout 76 is inevitable which the guys heading Obsidian apparently don't care for some ripping FO76 using The Outer Worlds for comparison, the Unreal 4 was released in June 2, 2012 while Bethesda's Creation Engine was in November 2011....seems to be some stark contrasts. In terms of performance and technical issues, from what little I read The U4 seems more stable and made for current system & hardware vs The Creation Engine. I just know what I saw playing FO76...was like playing some games from the mid-360 era....

There has been footage...45 minutes...of Gameplay released with some outlets lucky enough to get their hands on playing. I haven't...and probably won't watch the entire 45 minutes...but have skipped a bit and caught a few minutes here and there. So I'll leave it up to those on if they want to watch all or just parts.....

Yeah. But since Obsidian isn't publishing the game themselves, it's neat that Microsoft was able to work something out with 2K/Private Division. I wonder if it's included with the PC Game Pass; thinking about getting this for my Fallout-obsessed brother, but he's more of a PC/PS4 guy.

Interesting...and so far the PS Community is not too happy and wondering if future DLC will get the same....bias treatment....no word from Obsidian as to why...

I still am since the gameplay and all really looks fun...but I wouldn't say worried and super concerned about future DLC/Updates for the game....but the optics of how this is being the XBox One X given the enhancements while the PS4 Pro not, well......and some have noted past games have given both consoles the same treatment and this is a bit unusual....just makes one wonder since Obsidian was acquired by MS will the XB get special DLC or both treated equal. Plus if there will be a Outer Worlds Part II, count out the PS4.......I've had this and the Jedi game on my radar...and the more I see of The Jedi: Fallen Order the more I'm leaning that way....

It makes sense that MS/Obsidian would want to boost the desire for the XBox version.... but I still think that it's dumb not to have enhancements for the PS4 Pro.
I'll be playing this because of game pass anyway, so I'm not affected, but I get why people are disappointed in the decision.

Re: The Outer Worlds (10/25/2019: PC, XB1, PS4)
A sequel wouldn't be on the PS4/PS5, yeah, since Microsoft/Obsidian own the IP. I have to admit to being skeptical that the Obsidian acquisition is the reason the PS4 Pro isn't enhanced, though. It's not as if Microsoft is publishing the game anyway; what would Private Division get out of the PS4 being shafted? My guess is that it's sort of the reverse: that Obsidian perhaps wasn't going to offer enhancements for either of the mid-gen revisions, but the acquisition compelled them to go to some extra lengths for the XB1X (or maybe MS even funded the enhancement). Not that that'd make the situation any less shitty.

I saw that late yesterday on a few game sites...thanks for posting that and hopefully settled down a lot of PS4 players. Still a bit curious even more now how the story got out it was only for the XB One X and not PS4 Pro. I would also like to hear about future DLC.

I don’t much care for the Fallout franchise, but this certainly looks cool as hell. And fair is fair! Oh wait, that’s a movie, I mean free is free!

Re: The Outer Worlds (10/25/2019: PC, XB1, PS4)
The Outer Worlds' Day One Patch is as Big as the Game
The Outer Worlds, a wacky Western-style RPG set in space, is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. The Microsoft Store gives the game's approximate size is 36.78 GB. Obsidian say that the title update coming on launch day will be around 38GB to download for Xbox players who purchase physical copies of the game; around the same size as the actual game. It's around 18 GB for PS4 owners of the physical game, whilst for those who purchase it digitally on either platform, the patch will be included in the game's pre-load.
