Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order (7/19/2019: Switch)

Just announced at the video game awards.

It seems to be a a sequel in spirit only as Nick Fury from the Ultimate Universe is featured unless they go with the whole Marcus Johnson/Fury Jr story here after his dad/original Fury merged with the virus at the end of MUA2. What I don't get is going Switch exclusive.

Damn that’s a pretty big get for the Switch. I really liked the first two of these so I’ll be grabbing this.

A third party Nintendo exclusive not based on Cold Stone Creamery? Whoa!

Nintendo is publishing, so I’d call it first party (even if it’s not from one of their internal teams).

Some would call it second party. Looks like this is developed by Team Ninja.

Looks pretty bad like it could almost be a phone game.

It pains me to say it since I like MUA a lot but I agree. In fact, I thought it was going to be announced as a mobile game based on the graphics/gameplay. Will see how it turns out when released.

I agree it looks like a phone game...but after Nioh, I am going to give Team Ninja the benefit of the doubt here and say this will be amazing. (but still wait for reviews)

Well, your phone hardware is probably better than the Switch at this point anyway, and personally I'd love to see a non microtransaction version of Marvel Future Fight on the Switch (the number of characters they have is mind boggling). But yeah, the graphics don't look that great, in fact I was thinking it would be another MvC Infinite situation, but Team Ninja definitely eased those concerns.

Who am I kidding, I would buy this day 1 anyway.

Yeah, the graphics are disappointing to me too. Not a fan of that cell shaded look, just feels simple and cheap.

Yup echoing everyone here. Doesn’t look good graphically— way worse than the first two on PS4. But I’m hooked on that gameplay so I will probably get it, assuming the reviews are good.

Awesome! I loved this series going back to X-Men Legends!

I don’t mind the graphics personally. From what I remember the first two didn’t have amazing graphics either really. This is more cartoony with the cel shading but I don’t think it’s bad.

That's because MUA came out in 2006 as a PS2 / OG Xbox game. Of course it wasn't going to look great, it wasn't even HD at the time

I think the cell shaded graphics make it look dated, they really should have taken a different approach.

I had it on 360. Unless that was just a ported version. I'm not saying it looked horrible on there or anything but it wasn't anything too revolutionary. Just kind of a standard looking game. The sequel was definitely on the current gen consoles of the time (360 and PS3) and didn't look a lot better. Either way though I'm fine with how the new one looks.

re: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order (7/19/2019: Switch)

Yes, it was ported to 360. And if I remember correctly the sequel wasn't widely loved due to the dates graphics and gameplay. There wasn't much innovation over the first one. Hopefully this one turns out to be much better.

re: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order (7/19/2019: Switch)

I didn't like the sequel because of the way they handled the powers, IIRC MUA had a lot more powers you could choose from per character. And even that was a step back from XMen Legends 2.

Red Hood 02-14-19 07:03 PM

re: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order (7/19/2019: Switch)

The sequel was a lazy cash grab. No alternate costumes unless you completed the fusion powers with everyone in the roster or jump through hoops with other non-sensical bs and the camera angles suck for most part. I expected better graphics for MUA3 but someone dropped the ball

7 minute preview. Graphics, while not mind-blowing, are at least looking better.

Looks like they went all-out getting MCU sound-alikes for the vocal work

This will be eligible for the voucher program if you have nintendo online as well.

The graphics look a little improved in that video but still, the character list seems light. I wonder if they will start pumping more characters through DLCs

E3 trailer with new characters, including an obscure one in Bloodstone

As I mentioned in the Switch thread, this game is now available for pre-purchase in the eShop with a Voucher.

Though that trailer mentions a Season Pass being available for purchase today, it isn't in the eShop - at least not yet. Hope it's not too expensive. Figure I will want it for the Fantastic Four at least.

Edit - It's up now :Individual DLC
