Sony going portable... again?
 

Found this article at Yahoo insinuating that a new portable device might be in the works. I haven't been interested in portable gaming since my teens but if they could seamlessly tie in gaming like the Switch, I might be interested.

Yeah, I got burned by their lack of support before, I think I'd hold off on any Sony portable unless they show they're going to support it with at least a handful of AAA titles. That's the problem, if they fork off into handheld they're still going to be focused on the PS5 way more, as opposed to Nintendo who pretty much put all their eggs into one basket.

I don’t see why they’d want to try again. Neither the PSP or PS Vita did very well. I own the Vita and actually recently got it out (I hadn’t played it in years) and it’s not a terrible handheld, but it just didn’t get much support and there aren’t many games I own or would want to pick up. I only have four physical games and downloaded two digital games.

I actually got pretty good use out of both. I picked up a PSP when I was in college and working at the computer labs, so that helped waste some time. And I still take my Vita on vacations and weekends trips. It's been nice building up my library with free games from PS+. And the OLED screen is absolutely beautiful.

That being said I can't see myself picking up another handheld today. I don't even really play my Switch much.

I enjoyed the PSP but the lack of new games and short battery life was the deal breaker for me.

Never had a PSP or PS Vita...

Last hand-held I had was the platinum colored original GBA.

Just never been a big hand-held gamer outside of the original Pokemon games... but I gave up on that franchise after Pokemon Crystal. Trying to "catch them all" becomes a mess when you've got thousands.

If they do want to try again it's because of the Switch's portability "threat".. PS5 itself clearly is not going to have that capability. That said, they have to somehow keep the new portable in the spotlight a lot better than they managed to with the Vita.

Honestly I wouldn't want them going the Switch route. If they want to build another handheld, that's fine, but the PS5 needs to be a fully next generation system.

If they could just perfect what they were trying to do with the Vita's Remote Play and allow you to power on your PS4 and play your digital games, streaming to a handheld device anywhere with an internet connection, without lag -- I would pay over $200 for that device.
