Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
I'm surprised they don't have the full games list since this is only a couple months away. I wonder if they would still be finalizing games or there would be regional differences. Or they want to do another announcement later to get more media attention closer to launch.

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
I'm waiting to see the full list as well. It comes out to $5 a game, so if all of those are available on PS4/PS3/Vita (and hell, probably cross buy as well), then I don't see the point of having another piece of hardware taking up an HDMI port.

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
I think this and N64 are the last we're going to see of these things for a while, considering the massive jump in processing power that needs to be emulated by cheap hardware and the rising cost of controllers and storage. We'll talk PS2 when a future Raspberry Pi model can run Dolphin decently.

I wonder if we'll see Playstation notables like Crash or Spyro given that there are remastered versions out.

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
It's gonna depend on how many of the Twisted Metal games will be on there, and if I see ole Gex on the roster.
FF7 + Twisted Metal + Gex + Mini-PS1 console = I'm interested.
FF7 + Twisted Metal + Gex + Mini-PS1 console + FF Tactics + Darkstalkers + Crash = I'm definitely in.

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
With the PS2, I was going to think that 20 DVD-sized (4-8 GB) games would be cost prohibitive, but then again 128GB sticks are $20 nowadays, so maybe that won't be bad especially in another year. Same with the processing power needed to run the games since the system will be close to 20 years old if/when the PS2 Classic is released.

Well, I preordered it.
Here's a list I put together of the games I think could/might land on this.
Confirmed:
Final Fantasy VII (T)

Very likely (games that were published by Sony):

Jet Moto (E)
Legend of Dragoon (T)
Legend of Legaia (E)
PaRappa the Rapper (E)
Spyro the Dragon (E)

Somewhat likely (system sellers, and they need a puzzle game):
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (T)
Final Fantasy Tactics (T)
Metal Gear Solid (M)
Resident Evil 2 (M)
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (E)
Less likely (highly regarded but niche titles):

Vagrant Story (T)

I doubt they could get Lunar, at least not the localization by now defunct Working Designs... I don't even think it was ever released digitally.

Unfortunately, I’ve got this stuck in my head as a real possibility, else I’d think they would be sure to include Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Metal Gear Solid. Who knows how Sony will approach this.

Not that I think we'd get Resident Evil 2 anyway, Sony wouldn't want to compete with the upcoming remake.

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
I don't buy this limitation for a second unless Perry's got a specific source. As I believe someone already mentioned, Sony made their name by pushing the demographic older. Not only are they not inclined to follow the same "family-friendly" strategy as Nintendo does, they would likely lose sales to their known fanbase by leaving out M-rated titles.

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
I think these plug and play systems are meant to be mass market toys for families, so to me seems a very low likelihood to be an M rated system. But, yeah, we'll see soon enough.

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
Because I evidently have nothing better to do, I added ESRB ratings to my list.
Good point. I moved it from "less likely" to "unlikely."

I always associated Lunar more with the Sega CD anyway.

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
The biggest problem with this release is that a you can buy a PS1 on Ebay for well under $100 currently, and the majority of games are either dirt cheap, or available via PSN. The only way this is worth it is if they release some rare OOP games on it.
Personally I wish they would reissue the PS3 instead because my launch model is just about done and they are expensive now.

I bought Silent Hill on PSN years ago, so I expect it to be on there.
Here's one out of left field .... Dino Crisis

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
I don't see this as the same market. It's a nostalgic cash-in for people who will buy on impulse/for the holiday, but would never in their day-to-day lives be on eBay collecting old games. Same market as the Nintendo Classics.. except it won't do as well. Well, for sure - but only Nintendo has the unique nostalgic cachet to cause something like the 2016 NES frenzy.

Looking for used versions of whatever is already too much effort that I think most people want to go through.

Re: Playstation Classic -- With 20 preloaded games
Yes, but initially released for Saturn. Everything on my list was a PlayStation exclusive at the time of release, as far as I'm aware. Of the ones that did release for another platform, most were only ported to PC initially until years later. (It's one of the reasons that I also moved Lunar to "unlikely." Same for Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.)
