Changed the rotating and changing weapon button to Y like described above. But fire belcher is RB. Made more sense to me. Can’t wait to really dig in tomorrow!!!!!!

Played a bunch more today, and it turns out this game is actually fantastic. It just took some time to wrap my head around everything. Loving it.

Yeah, I'm loving this, too! Only 2 hours in, for me, but it's been great.
The performance is amazing. I have Rage 2 and it runs like a dog. This runs really smoothly and very rarely feels laggy.
The only complaint I have, so far, is a small design complaint. There are areas that look like they could be a path to a secret (i.e. along a cliffside), but following them results in falling to your death. I.e. it looks like you should be able to walk, but the way the collisions are set up, you get pushed off, instead.
The climb mechanic is pretty neat, once I started to remember to actually use the action button to grab the wall.

Yeah, I think the Hell on Earth level was just sort of disorienting. It calmed down a bit after that and everything is pretty great.

Even though I keep upgrading my ammo capacity whenever possible, running out is still a problem. Especially after failing secret combat encounters once or twice in an area I've already cleared out, where there's no more grunts around to farm ammo from.

The Year One pass is $29.99, so no advantage to buying the Deluxe Edition except for an exclusive Demon Slayer skin. Will keep vanilla version, return my Deluxe Edition copy to Best Buy (somehow, the stores are all closed here) and buy the DLC at a later date if I finish the main campaign and still want more.

holy shit, you guys weren't kidding when you talked about lack of ammo. it took me ten tries just to get to first checkpoint. shit there are so many creatures coming at you. it takes strategy now, more so than 2016. right amount of running, gunning, hiding and using that chainsaw to get just barely enough of what you need. and better make those shots count. even though i kept dying and refused to move down level from normal i was still having a shit ton of fun. but who boy you got to be on your toes and really make things count. love the lesser load times now. those possessed soldier dudes, they are a call back to DOOM of old, correct? more to come...
And also, I guess it’s better, but I don’t like that you can’t just take down the regular zombies with just one melee. Now, hard to even with 5+ melees. Have to shoot...

I just tried the new multiplayer "Battlemode"... what a steaming hot turd that mode is. I don't know who thought that spin on pvp would be a good idea. Quite possibly the least fun I've ever had playing multiplayer. If you thought the multiplayer in the 2016 version was bad, this is much worse.
And I hate that there are trophies tied to it because I'm an admitted trophy whore and I can already tell it's gonna be a long miserable experience.
The single player campaign is excellent though.

Ammo pinching makes me want to play this even less. I was getting hyped until I see you guys start talking about that.

Ammo is scarce because they want you to use the chainsaw. Chainsaw turns enemies into ammo-piñatas and is on a cool-down this time around. Chainsaw = ammo, flamethrower = Armor, glory kill = health. You kinda have to use all of them depending on what you need. Think of the lower level enemies as walking item-pickups, that's how the game wants to be played.

Once you unlock more guns and start upgrading things you have more weapons/ammo at your disposal. And then the chainsaw becomes much more effective at replenishing your inventory.

I was on the verge of rage quitting, last night. It was toward the end of the second level, and you have to jump across platforms, around a mountain, that drop when you stay on them, followed by a couple of the bars you swing from (can't say I'm too thrilled with that mechanic.) The platforms were more like Crash Bandicoot than what I expect from Doom. Regardless, I got through it. Hopefully they don't rely too heavily on that, going forward.
Overall, I'm enjoying it, but not quite as much as the first one. It seems more hectic, particularly with just throwing a zillion enemies at you for an extended period.

I'm up to level 6. I'd have to say the bars and platforming sections don't go away. In some cases they get more ridiculous... especially if you're going after all the collectibles and hidden areas.

I'm actually fine with the platforming, the climbing and to an extent the bars, I just think it was a really silly addition

The issue with ammo does get better as the game goes on, that's for sure, but it was still a major pain in the ass to start. I don't know how far I am into the game now (maybe 75%) but it's not that big of a deal anymore. But I do have all weapon slots filled, all ammo capacity upgrades selected, and the auto shotgun attachment has a perk that causes ammo to drop when you kill an enemy with it.
At first I thought the weapon mastery requirements were ridiculous, but I've just been going back to earlier levels and replaying them, and have been able to meet those requirements with no problem, usually well before I finish the level.

Re: Doom Eternal (3/20/20: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch, Stadia)
I’m all for a challenge, but holy shit, that Doom Hunter boss fight at the end of Level 4. I gave it everything I had, but after many deaths I gave up and restarted the fight with the suggested armor. Got through it in two tries.
Otherwise, i’m really enjoying the game. The platforming sections are ass, but the action segments are pretty fun. I don’t recall the 2016 Doom requiring such pitch perfect accuracy and strategy.

Re: Doom Eternal (3/20/20: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch, Stadia)
So who exactly are the soldier guys?
Also, is it me or does the graphics in most of the playable areas, especially the secrets look cartoonish? It seems to pay homage to Doom of old. But 2016 was all grit and grime, while some of these things look out of place. Weird. Hard to describe.
It also seems much easier to find these secrets and 1ups. I dunno. 2016 made me work, even looking a couple up. But these are pretty easy. And is there no more Rune trials? You just have to find one now?
Even the map and menus while much easier to navigate seem cartoonish. Still having fun, but some things out of place, but I think it gets time to get used to. Like traversing and the platforming, which just means it evolved and I think I will like it eventually.
Also you guys nearing the end, how long has it been taking you?
