Wow, this game is a cake walk with the cheats enabled - lol, I know, cheats are activated but I'm still surprised it's as easy as it is. Platforming still sucks though.

Fuck that looked good. Fuck Halo 4, I’m finishing Eternal, then this. I was liking again before I got grabbed by Control. Didn’t hear of optimization on Series X, so wtf not...

I'm not going to kid myself, I'll definitely be getting this.

However, looks like plenty more platforming and swimming.

So there's Ancient Gods part 1 for $29.99CDN or the Year One Pass for $39.99CDN which includes Ancient Gods parts 1&2.

Is it reasonable to assume Ancient Gods part 2 will also be $29.99 if bought individually?

how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Marauder?

i know i've beat them before, but is there a full proof way to kill it? i keep hitting when eyes turn green and he gets hit, pushes back, but i am on this part in Taras Nabad when all these things come at me at once and then the Marauder and while i can get ammo and health, i can't seem to get this fucking guy no matter how much i try. i've died at least 50 times on this part, which i think is end of level, but fuck i can't get passed...

Kill everything else first if you can, and then super shotgun that asshole in the face a few times when he goes green. Avoid any other weapon though except maybe the ballista if necessary.

...Or just say fuck it and use the Crucible if you have it already.

Re: Doom Eternal (3/20/20: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch, Stadia)

thanks Rich. yeah, i got rid of everything around till it was me and him many many. i did use the super shotgun and finally fucking beat him and that area. that was the toughest area to get through...

andicus 10-25-20 09:34 PM

Re: Doom Eternal (3/20/20: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch, Stadia)

I think there's a flaw/exploit in that you can switch between the super shotgun and the ballista, which somehow buys you time. I haven't tried it, but my son mentioned it to me.

Actually, yeah... Here's a video of the technique.

On another note, I've heard that there's a part in the new expansion pack in which you have to fight two marauders at the same time.

I've also heard that the levels are like a bunch of Slayer Gates. I'm back to being undecided about buying the expansion. Those battles would get tedious.

Re: Doom Eternal (3/20/20: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch, Stadia)

So, I fell in love with this game again. The platforming is like second nature now and don’t even think twice about what to do.

So before I finish the last 3 levels and finish main game, I’m going back through missions to get stuff and especially get all the Empyrean keys so I can get that final Unmakyer gun in the Fortress of Doom, since mission I’m about to head into gives me last chance message to get what I can in the Fortress.

So figured get all I can prior. I have 2 missions/keys to go.

I know you can’t use cheat codes in the slayer gate battle, but can you use the cheat codes to get you to the slayer key and then restart from checkpoint with cheat code off to complete the gate and get Empyrean key?

I mean the levels certainly are easier now and don’t really need since I’m pretty powered up anyway, but some of these levels, like the Cultist base, to get to the gate is long and arduous. So just wondering if I can or can not.

Thanks.

5 keys down, 1 to go. Now after I get all keys and then final gun and decide to use a cheat code, like say infinite ammo, which I just found in Super Gore Nest, does that affect your scores after completion of mission, meaning, basically, while using them, will everything you find (secrets, what have you) count toward progression when you get rewarded at end of mission?

I feel I might just want to ram through last 3 missions and take on DLC 1 and be done for now.

Or are they more for after finish main and just want to play around?

Does infinite ammo, also give infinite BFG and Unmakyr ammo as well? Cause that could be fun or get dull after awhile of obliterating everything in seconds.

Either way, I’ve totally changed my mind on this game and while not as good as 2016, still pretty damn fun once you pass halfway mark...

Does the platforming get any better? Because that's easily the one thing killing this game for me. That and the spazy, blindly-fire-at-everything battles.

it really becomes second nature. going back through the missions, i really didn't think about it anymore and it was just part of the game. didn't detract at all. believe me, in the beginning, like you, i hated this game, but halfway through it becomes Doom of old, or at least 2016.

there is less platforming and much more arenas where you just have to kill a whole bunch of different baddies and i'm not sure about blindly shooting. most every beast has a weakness that you need to shoot at properly to expose and kill. and you have to utilize your strengths, like flame belch to get armor and especially chainsaw to get ammo.

but now that i got all the Empyrean keys (doing the last one at 1am this morning) and last final gun, i look forward to last 3 missions and then on to DLC. as i said i fell in love again and look forward to playing this now. so slog in beginning and then it just clicks and turns around. at least for me...

Re: Doom Eternal (3/20/20: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch, Stadia)

last 2 missions. sad to say goodbye now. never thought i'd say that when i first began, in March, i guess and i gave it up for some time, but picked back up, got better, easier, well, the platforming at least and on to the end and then Ancient Gods I DLC. the game and scenery really is majestic. i love just looking around and seeing the artistic landscapes all over the place. the souls on the walls moving and crying out in agony, attention to detail is amazing. also, found no glitches in the game which has been great.

that Unmakyr gun really is a beast, but so little ammo found anywhere in the game for it, which blows. love finding the Mastery tokens and getting a fully powered whatever gun by bypassing the challenge.

anyone play TAG I? Rich?

Naw not yet, I cut back on season passes since I rarely finish the main games anymore, I may buy it on sale sometime.

Re: Doom Eternal (3/20/20: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch, Stadia)

You know it’s funny. I died hundreds of times in this game. Many, many times at some points. I die once during a not so short first battle with the Kahn Makyr and then given the option for using Sentinel armor. Once. And it wasn’t a quick death either. Of course, I opted to go without the armor bc after all I made it this far without game even asking me if I wanted, so I think I’ll be ok. Died a few more times, but battles were really long. I just haven’t figured her out yet, but I will. I have some ideas. Even the hint the game gives you wasn’t working bc I couldn’t even get my super shottie to flaming meat hook to grab her once and I know she was close enough. But I’ll get her, I’ll get her. Also, funny there were times where all I had was my chainsaw and the drones she sent were immune so all I could do is flame belch and use my grenades once in awhile to blow them up, oh and melee, that saved me until some shot gun and regular shells magically regenerated. I even tried to grenade and flame belch her when there were no drones or regen ammo anywhere, that didn’t work so well. But, I’ll get her tomorrow. I always overcome another day when I’m fresher and more prepared. She will be my bitch!

And this game will be another 180 for me and will truly think it was great by games end. This I know. I really started to have a blast and still am.

Re: Doom Eternal (3/20/20: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch, Stadia)

this really turned out to be an epic game. the last two boss battles alone were just insane with the bosses and all the beasties thrown out at you especially during Final Sin.

i turned completely around and this really did build well on the 2016 version and added lore and story and i liked that, but at the heart it was killing so many different beasties in so many fun ways, like 2016. thinking was also involved in the platforming, but more importantly in the way you kill and with what. chainsaw for ammo. flame belch for shield. you really do need a little strategy and i certainly needed them all to finish this.

what a great feeling it is to finish an epic, rather long game and doing pretty well, meaning getting a lot of the stuff, all the Empyrean keys, etc., the cheat codes (which i never used, yet. may go back and try infinite ammo on some levels where i didn't get everything).

i have to say, i really turned and did love this game and would buy any future installments in a heartbeat. still will go back to the DLC at some point, but i need a break for now. the 2nd to last boss (Kahn Makyr) literally had my hands shaking and worn by the end.

overall, very enjoyable.

do you just go to that mission and there will be an option to play this new version of the level? i assume cheat codes can't work...

Cool! I was disappointed that there only seemed to be one master level. I didn't realize they would add any.

Re: Doom Eternal (3/20/20: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch, Stadia)

Damn it! I played it, and it's very challenging, even on Hurt Me Plenty.

I finally cleared out the first section, and apparently there must be a bug, because the door wouldn't open, so I couldn't continue.

I reloaded the last checkpoint and it restarted the whole mission, only I was inside, already. You normally have to break a wall to get in.

What a pain in the ass. If anyone is going to try it, I'd recommend waiting a few days to see if it's a common bug, and if it gets patched. It's very frustrating to clear it out and then get stuck.

Got this for $20 and tried it today. Looks nice, but the run and gun shooter really cant cut it these days. Gamers demand more these days and i have lost interest almost immediately. It doesnt help that ammo seems incredibly sparse. I am spending more time trying to gain ammo back than anything else. This will probably be added to the ever growing list of games that simply dont win over the gamer for their time.

Chainsaw killing specific enemies (that are always around) refills ammo.

I also didn't like this game initially at all, it grew on me.

Yeah i know, i spent 80% of my time doing exactly that... until the chainsaw ran out of gas, which was every two seconds.
