Like killing humans or non-humans in games more?

So I was thinking about all the forms of beings you can kill in certain video games. Some real humans. Some aliens, zombies, etc.

Of course, all fictitious, but what gives you more satisfaction?

Does it depend on the game or do you just prefer one type, form, whatever in these type of games? Which, let’s face it, is an overwhelming majority of video games these days...to kill something. Don’t get me wrong, when I’m invested in a story, killing a real bad human is, of course, satisfying.

I guess zombies/infected would be my pick. I don’t get caught up in the bad humans who need to be killed, like in many war games. But, bashing or tearing apart zombies in some glorious fashion is my favorite. And yes, zombies were/are human, but they are monsters in my mind. Coincides with myone of favorite movie genres is zombies as well.

Of course they are all the rage. Put into human battle situations/modes like in the CoD or Battlefield franchises. Always a fascination. But kicking some alien butt is pretty gratifying too.

So who or what do you like to kill?

Like you said, because of the human element when combined with a strong compelling story, killing humans can feel much, much more impactful. I like that more then the generic alien/monster/robot/zombie thing.

This is a somewhat disturbing thread.

One of my favorite franchises is Resident Evil...

And I recently got hooked on Left 4 Dead.

Love killing zombies.

Typically I prefer non-human, but there are exceptions of course.

Call of Duty is a snoozefest. Call of Duty Zombies? A blast. I'll take the alien Covenant in Halo over most anything. Bungie did such an amazing job creating various aliens at different skill levels.

So, my exceptions? Borderlands (which has a mix of people & creatures), Tomb Raider (alien/supernatural stuff suck) and Far Cry (blasting those religious zealots is pretty satisfying).

I do actually have "feelings" about killing normal humans in games. But yeah, Zombies/Infected...it's cathartic. I mean everyone knows part of the dark appeal of Zombies is you're killing people...without really killing people. You know what I mean? You can get the same feelings killing Nazis because both Zombies and Nazis are "Human Adjacent".

I always figured Wolfenstein was OK because I was just killing Nazis, but now Nazis have made a comeback. :(

The only ones I don't care for are robots. And Gob.

I'm indifferent about what I fake kill. It's all just animated pixels.

This is such a weird question. I mean, I guess a majority of the games I play these days has my human character killing other human characters. Battlefield. Battlefront II. But who kills what is doesn't matter as much to me as story, game play, repeat play value, etc.

But, the whole point of these games is killing. Killing whatever, but killing nonetheless. It’s a major part of story, gameplay, etc. Different kills, ways of killing. You don’t think what you kill plays a factor?

It’s stupid, but I don’t much like killing regular animals in games (so Far Cry doesn’t really work for me). Anything else is fine.

Same here.

As sick as it sounds there is some sort of very satisfying risk/reward ratio of shooting humans — tiny but extremely effective head hit area vs large, less effective body hit area.

I can't say that I've ever thought about it or felt like there was a difference.
