Never thought I'd be scared of Thomas the Engine, but here we are...
Honestly, that's even more frightening than Mr. X.

This game is scary lol. I can't take Mr. X stalking me - so tense. Just out of curiosity, why do fans call him Mr. X?

He was never referred to as a Tyrant or Mr. X in the original RE2 game, but Tyrant was first referred to as Mr. X by Claire in a novelization by SD Perry that released way back in 1999 along with some other promotional material.
Umbrella Corp created multiple Tyrants. "Mr. X" is a Tyrant, but has a different designation (T-103) than the original RE Tyrant (T-002), so he's a different type of Tyrant, one that can be controlled.
Resident Evil 2 (1998) introduced the T-103 Tyrant as an additional, persistent enemy in the "B" scenario, as opposed to having another Tyrant as an endgame boss. In the Prima strategy guide, he is nicknamed "Big Guy", but has since been retconned as a Tyrant-type.

Ugh, I still love the game but uh, I stopped playing it completely, just got put off by the amount of puzzle work and back-tracking - Mr. X went from completely terrifying to completely annoying.

So I've knocked out all the achievements except one... that damn Gunslinger one for the No Way Out stage in Ghost Survivors. I've watched countless tutorials on this and I just can't pull it off. I miss my headshots, the zombies never herd properly when I want to blow up the tanks, and even when I get deep into it I end up getting killed before I can even use all my special weapons. Ugh.

I've been playing this all month and beat Claire's story tonight. Leon's last week. Fantastic remake, really enjoyed it. I'm going to check out the Survivors DLC now.

No, they are like the sequences in Leon and Claire's stories where you play as Ada and Sherry. 3 short stories with 3 different characters

The 5 dollar DLC DOES give you all the heavy weapons with infinite ammo. I started playing again because of that.
This game is actually a terrible, tedious, puzzle-fest. I can see why it was so popular back in the day for being scary alone though. Also, I'm not saying the game overall is terrible, mainly just the game play. The graphics, environments, and scares (minus the huge annoyance of Tyrant) are all top notch.

me too. i stopped for a bit bc other things got in the way, but i was loving it, Tyrant and all. i only played a bit of 1 and 4 is one of favs of all time. 7, i loved as well, but certainly different. this i took to right away. it's fun and really survival as not that much ammo and stuff so you got to be conservative. and i'm bad at puzzle solving in these games, but i am not having a hard time at all. it's fun finding them actually...

Finished the game (Leon's story) the last 20 minutes were awesome. Horrible quick and lazy ending though - story and voice acting were pretty craptastic at most times as well.
But overall, this games presentation is outstanding, the zombies feel real as well as some of the environments (unfortunately, inside umbrella and some of the sewer sections don't look so hot).
So I was all pumped up to do Claire's story only to find that you're basically re-tracing Leon's steps - that was a huge a let down. I know, I know, there will be differences but I just don't think it's worth it.
I can finally say I finished Resident Evil 2 - even though it's not the original and I cheated half of the way.

Ha ha, so there is an "A" story and a "B" story for each character. After I finished Leon I made the mistake of starting Claire's "A" story because I didn't understand how it worked. The "A" stories are pretty much the same (some variances). The "B" story has new locales and is the storyline from the point of view of the other character. Based on your comment, it sounds like you might have been running Claire's "A" story like I did.
Technically to "complete" the game and get the full ending you need to run the "A" story of one character and "B" story of the other.
