Neo Geo mini!
I am all over this!
The Neo Geo mini includes forty masterpieces from the Neo Geo era. It’s shaped like a nostalgic arcade machine, and it comes with a 3.5-inch liquid crystal display of its own. This means that you can enjoy the games without the need to connect it to a TV or a monitor. That being said, the little machine that can does come with HDMI ports and two external controller posts to play it on your TV and with two players. It even includes an headphone jack. Dimensions are 135 mm × 108 mm × 162 mm, and it weighs about 600 grams https://cdn4.dualshockers.com/wp-con...oGeoMini-4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7jx9ZQJ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/lM3Apl0.png Games list... https://i.imgur.com/bLNrsoq.jpg They're shooting for sub-$100 I'm sure there will be a hack to expand the games list... |
Re: Neo Geo mini!
Surprised how cheap they intend it to be given the company. ;). I don’t know if I’ll get this though. Looks sorta cool but not sure how often I’d really play the games. Plus the unit while neat looks a bit bigger than I’d like it to be.

Re: Neo Geo mini!
I will SO get this. I wish it had Baseball Stars but I'm sure there will be a way to hack this.

Re: Neo Geo mini!
I can't remember how close I came to buying a Neo Geo home unit back in the early 90s. It wasn't the $700 price tag of the console that stopped me, but the $250 games. I did end up buying just about every other console every released though.
Looking forward to checking out the Mini version though, decent selection of games. |
Re: Neo Geo mini!
So, this mini would be close to $10K of hardware/games from the early '90s, adjusted for inflation, closer to $18K. :)

Re: Neo Geo mini!
This is the first one of these mini units that I will absolutely pre-order.
|
Re: Neo Geo mini!
Not my thing since I was never that big in to Neo Geo as a kid other then some Metal Slug and a little Fatal Fury, but its cool that its a small unit by itself and can also hook up to your TV.

Re: Neo Geo mini!
Launch Day purchase if it comes it at or under $100 for sure.

Re: Neo Geo mini!
I wanted one so bad as a kid, but as an adult fighting games don’t really appeal to me. Depending on the price I might pick it up.

Re: Neo Geo mini!
I think I may actually get this "mini" system, I had the NES and SNES as a kid, but of course the NEO GEO was way out of my price range.
Under $100 makes it an easy choice, considering what it was back in the day. |
Re: Neo Geo mini!
I know what they were going for but I'd almost rather have gotten a more traditional, switch-like portable that plugs into the TV (if they didn't want to go with the classic nes/snes route of just looking like a console with no screen) because that tiny stick and screen seem like it would be annoying to play on.

It has an HDMI out and controllers too.

Re: Neo Geo mini!
Is the International version for sale in the US yet? Any place besides Amazon?

Re: Neo Geo mini!
I was burned by the Neo Geo X, and at that price point there's no world where the screen, joystick, and buttons of this mini-cabinet aren't garbage. Secondly, no two player? I'll pass.
Oh hey, here's a review that echoes my predictions: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbrea...cade-imperfect "It starts with the stick. For some reason, SNK has gone with an analog stick without a gate or microswitches, meaning there’s no feedback on the direction you’re pressing." |

Re: Neo Geo mini!
Wait, the gamepad is separate? I was down for getting this when they were making it seem like it would be included.

Re: Neo Geo mini!
What made me cancel my pre-order was how it's apparently not worth playing hooked up to a TV.
I already have a ton of NeoGeo games on my Wii (Metal Slug collection, Samurai Showdown collection, and at least 20 other good NG games through the virtual console still on my SD card in the system, and all of them look/play great), so if this is a worse version of most of the games I already have, I'll have to pass. |

Re: Neo Geo mini!
From the review BWG posted...
You should forget about using the Neo Geo Mini on your TV, however. Even if you can be bothered to track down a relatively uncommon Mini HDMI to HDMI cable, the video output and scaling looks terrible and blurry, with no option to render proper pixels like on the NES and SNES Classic Editions. You’d also want to pick up a controller or two (also sold separately and sold out everywhere in Japan) because I can’t imagine using the built-in arcade-style controls would work out in many living room environments. |
Re: Neo Geo mini!
I had a feeling it would be shit.
|
Re: Neo Geo mini!
Ugh. I’ll just keep hoping to find an original system at garage sale or something. There’s nothing I’m dying to play, I just wanted the experience of the system.
