And we may even get Spider-Ham finally as a playable character! And the return of Noir and 2099 to video games.

You have a weird definition of what makes something a "full fledged" game.

Considering it took about 60 hours to finish Spider-man + DLC, yeah, Miles seems like an expansion or more DLC.

So you base your definition of what is a full fledged game by an arbitrary amount of time it takes to finish it?

If the core gameplay is the same and the game has limited replay ability, then concluding a game that is based on another existing full game, but with one fourth the content might be considered to be less than a full game. That seems reasonable to me. And it did to Sony as well which charged $60 for Uncharted 4 and Spider-Man but charged only $30 Lost Legacy or for the shorter-than-normal-but-outstanding Ratchet & Clank (PS4).

But please feel free to explain why you think it’s still a full game when Sony clearly doesn’t — as their statement this morning clarified.

Yeah, I didn't think it was that hard to follow. I'm not making some grandiose statement about all games or what I consider to be "full fledged" games. It's purely based on the game that came before, so yeah if it has 25% of the content of the previous game then it would be reasonable to consider it a spin-off.

Both Lost Legacy and Ratchet & Clank are full games though. Price isn't relevant nor is game length. Insomniac has stated Miles Morales is a stand alone game not an expansion.

Not that it detracts from your greater point, but both of those launched at $40.

I certainly wouldn’t complain if Miles cost less than the first Spider-Man game, although I’m not expecting that to happen. (Heck, maybe PS5 games will have a $70 MSRP, so $60 would be a discount!). It sounds like it’ll still be a full-length game by traditional standards, even though it’s shorter than the previous one, so it won’t sting for me.

They haven't said, but I don't see Sony going that route. It's a sequel to one of the biggest games on the PS4. They want to sell PS5s (which may or may not be pricey). A sequel to Spider-man selling PS5s is better in the long run than short term gains by having a PS4 version.

This is damn cool. Spider-man with Rami's cast. Whoever did this did a helluva good job on Dunst.

Super late to the party but I just played through this over the long weekend. I knew it was going to be good but I enjoyed it more than I expected.

Which story is canon for MIles, this or Spiderverse (mostly concerning his father)?

Neither is necessarily canon, but in the comics Miles originated in the Ultimate Universe and became Spider-Man after Peter Parker died and Miles' father, Jefferson Davis, does not die (still alive). So Into the Spider-verse is closer in that regard.

After the Ultimate Universe was cancelled, Miles and his father were folded into the mainstream continuity, where he and Peter now both operate as Spider-Man. So maybe the game might be closer in that regard?

Re: Spider-Man (Insomniac Games) PS4 (9/7/18)

I bought this game awhile back, but only started playing it this weekend. I didn't like it at first, thinking I'd just stick to the main story, but now I'm super into it and doing as much if the bonus/side stuff as I can.

Question though: is the DLC worth purchasing and playing through? Looks like it'll cost me $25 on its own.
But if I buy the Ultimate version of the new game, it's only $20 extra... But my understanding is I'd have to replay the entire game again. Not sure I want to do that, as much as I'm enjoying it...

The DLC exists totally separately from the main game (it’s actually only accessible from the DLC tab, all three stories separate from each other), I would say wait for the Miles Morales version and just get it there.
Though if you did it with a new Spider-Man save without the upgrades, it would probably be hard AF. I would at least wait and see how it will be integrated. We don’t know for sure how the cross save might work.

The DLC is pretty uniformly disappointing.

I was happy to get more content, but you are right it’s pretty lackluster.

Re: Spider-Man (Insomniac Games) PS4 (9/7/18)

Pretty much the same here. It wasn't the best DLC but I wasn't done with that world after I finished the game so the DLC gave me a few extra hours entertainment swinging around the city.

So I wouldn't even bother thinking about the DLC until you're done with the game. You may get sick of it by the time you're done in which case you wasted money on DLC you're never going to play.

Re: Spider-Man (Insomniac Games) PS4 (9/7/18)

Thanks guys. I ended up pre-ordering the Ultimate edition of the new game in case I get the itch to play through the DLC of this game at a later date. I'm in the final stretch of this one, and it's been a total blast, but some of the side missions are a pain in the ass (pigeons... drones... etc.)

Its what we all expected. I don’t think it is possible to give new trophies if you use an old save file.

It would be nice if they gave us a free upgrade if we own the GotY Digital and buy Miles Morales on the PS5, but I doubt that they will.
