Re: The inevitable SNES Classic is coming (inc. Starfox 2!; 21 games, 9/29/17, $80)

I finally found one at a Target and picked it up. It's been fun revisiting some of these games, like Super Metroid.

The controller cord lengths are ridiculous, though.

That was the biggest thing holding me back from playing more. I finally stopped by Best Buy and picked up the two pack of controller extension cables for $10. Totally worth it.

Why bother? The website will probably crash at 10:59am PT or you'll get an error message trying to add this to your cart.

Looks like this brief Walmart sale is already a fiasco.

People are reporting on Twitter that they had the item in their cart and tried to check out and it was already sold out.

Yup. I tried. No more. I have zero patience to try to track one of these down for my wife for Christmas. Yet again, fuck you, Nintendo.

Apparently there was something like an eight-second window where the item was available.

I was able to get one, but yeah, I think I was on the site for only 5 seconds after refreshing. It showed Preorder, I clicked then clicked Submit order or whatever. Shows Dec 7th ship date.

Re: The inevitable SNES Classic is coming (inc. Starfox 2!; 21 games, 9/29/17, $80)

I heard the profit margin for selling one on Ebay is not that great. After fees and such, I saw some people saying they're only making $30-40 profit tops. My question is that really even worth it?

I should just buy one of those bootleg devices you can order from China and get like 600 games on it. This is just ridiculous. Nintendo is a billion dollar corporation in Japan and the U.S. and purposely under-producing this to increase demand is bullshit.

With rare exceptions, selling on eBay requires that you be moving a large quantity and variety of items in order to make a profit. You won't make huge profits off one or two items unless they're truly unique items - a couple years ago we sold a Sega CD game (Keio Flying Squadron) for nearly $400, we had bought it years ago for probably less than $20 used. We used that money to buy our WiiU and games.

But again, that's the outlier. Unless these guys can flip these things for a few hundred bucks every single time, they're barely making their money back.

Sick of this crap. Especially since they promised that it wouldn't be like last year. The demand is already there. Why the need to increase it and piss off consumers?

Cause they want to sell higher volume of the more expensive Switch. If these were available, I'd guess Switch sales would drop pretty hard for the holidays.

I've seen Switches in every store I've been to in the last few weeks. I've never seen a SNES. I don't think one correlates to the other.

I'm surprised anyone thought it would be any different. Nintendo and supply issues are like peanut butter and jelly dating back as far as I can remember, at least since the N64(I got a SNES at launch but don't recall much about launch). It doesn't matter what the top brass say prior to a launch, history says otherwise.

Not really.

I've got a veteran ebay account (from the 90s) with hundreds of feebacks at 100% and I don't bother with something with such a tiny amount of profit.

Unless you're a powerseller or something the costs are generally 20-30% which takes most of the profit out of it.

Then again I remember being super poor when we were a 1-income household scraping by...if I spent 4 or 5 hours waiting in line, posting auctions and shipping stuff out, making that extra $60 that was really needed. Maybe for some folks the time invested is worth it.

I ended up with 3 SNES classics from release morning, one for a coworker who wanted one. They weren't that hard to get on release morning. I caught a nap, scoped out the stores to see how the lines/supply were looking, and went out at about 5am to wait in line at Target. After Target I zipped over and got one at Best Buy. And I had another pre-ordered from Target.com.

My 2nd coworker backed out (he had some expenses come up) so I sold my extra on CL for $100. Not worth the ebay hassle/shipment packing/risk to make an extra $20 or so.

Surprised to have gotten one at Target this morning because they said they got their shipment in Monday and still had stock this morning.

I did the same. Definitely worth it. Well, I bought from Amazon, but same idea. Now the only downside is that I have to hop up to access save states, which I was doing a lot while trying to pull off some tricker moves in Super Metroid.

Target seems to be the best bet locating one of these things. I saw three while there today.

I think it helps that they disabled the tracking via Brickseek. So it's fair game for everyone now.

You must live in a small city.

Here in Southern California, I live in a suburb of Los Angeles, you cannot find one to save your life.

I live next to 2 Targets, 1 Best Buy and 2 Walmarts and none have them.

I wouldn't really call St. Louis a small city

And others here have reported seeing them pop up as well. Maybe we don't encounter the number of re-sellers that you have there?

I haven’t seen any since last month when I spotted them at Target. I’m guessing they’ll restock soon for the holidays.

SoCal is scalper central. I'm sure you'll find a ton of these if you go to Frank and Sons this weekend.

I actually found 2 of these tonight at a random Target that we stopped at. I debated for a good 20 minutes but ended up getting one. Wife wasn't sure of what to get me for Christmas, so it worked out perfectly.
