I was having a real hard time with Ridley using missiles. I ended up just using charge shots and she went down real fast. Now to find Mother Brain.

Do save states Work the same way with the official games? Can you also add more later on or is it risky to the hardware to keep adding more?

Try playing them on the big screen after hacking your SNES. It's amazing how good they look, B&W be damned.

They do. And you can keep updating the system as you like, with a very easy-to-use program. It's an incredible service a certain pair of hackers have/are providing gamers of a certain age.

Nice! I plan to get through the official games first before adding more

I keep wanting to try and add games to this and my NESC but I'm too paranoid about bricking it, especially with them being in short supply.

I'm keeping my SNES as is. I think there's something cool about keeping it stock personally. If I wanted more games I'd just buy the games digitally via Virtual Console or the actual cartridges or maybe a Pi.

Has the hype on this thing died off yet? I don't see many mentions of it on social media and it seems like here in this forum the interest level in it has kind of died off. Seems like a lot of you have already gotten bored of it.

Although I don't see the stores in my area restocking either.

I think because this one was easier to get there's not so much butthurt fans bitching. That accounted (somewhat rightfully) for a lot of the NES Classic chatter.

Personally, I haven’t posted here because there’s really nothing to report. I’m playing it, loving it. About to beat Mario RPG for the first time. Contra kicked my ass. Not sure I can stomach StarFox, but we’ll see.

No interest in hacking mine either, i did the emulator/rom thing years ago back when the scene first emerged and NES and SNES emulators were first being developed, so don't really care about it anymore.

I was worried too but once I used the program that went out the door. It couldn't be easier and it's pretty clear not much can go wrong. Just make sure you use the included command to back up your unit's original state and worst case, you just return it to stock.

If you really want to do it, go for it!

There's a ton of them on ebay, though from $150 to $250, going for way more than they should.

It seems to have. Most of my friends that were interested in these little boxes were so turned off by what happened with the NES Classic, that they didnt even bother with the SNES version. Soem of them built Raspberri Pis and are happily playing whatever games they want.

I am interested in hacking mine but am waiting for another one to show up so I can keep one unhacked. At this time I still have a ton of system games I still want to beat so I'm not in a huge hurry. I figure Zelda and FFIII will take me through the end of the year anyway.

Re: The inevitable SNES Classic is coming (inc. Starfox 2!; 21 games, 9/29/17, $80)

Well, shit, I went ahead and got one of these fuckers on Craigslist for $100, new. I figure the extra $20 was worth not having to keep looking for one, and with Christmas fast approaching, it would only get harder and harder to find one.

One interesting thing, as far as availability, when I looked on ebay (where there's PLENTY, but all over $120), they're almost all coming out of the Midwest, and pretty much none out of California/west-coast. Could it be that stores in CA just got less than other stores in other sates?

I'd chalk it up to population density. Here in LA there were lots of stores getting ~100 on launch day. That's good stock, but a hundred people turned out at each store, easily.

So, are people seeing these out in the wild? I want to get a couple for Xmas gifts but never see any available online at the he usual stores and always forget to look when I am in the stores.

They should sell these at Costco and Sam's club. They would sell a shit ton for Xmas.

I have seen them 3 times on the shelf in different Walmart stores. A friend at GameStop said they had seen 2-3x more of the SNES Classic, than they ever did of the NES Classic.

Grr, I loaded A Link to the Past from a freeze spot or whatever it's called in the menu instead of starting the game and using it's in-game saving feature and loss my progress. I wasn't too far, just got the third pendant and now back to having just got the first. Still, it was frustrating.

Despite the warning that pops up I went ahead anyway, misunderstanding the right move to make. Learn from me, friends!

The cover for the controller ports is some cheap shit and I could see it falling apart soon. It doesn't even come down all the way. I think I'll just break it off entirely.

Gonna look into modding it soon - could you imagine EVERY SNES game on this, even the imports? Crazy!

Still haven’t found one. None of the stores in my area have seemed to restocked. Or they’ve restocked in secret and it sells out fast.

With Christmas coming up, it’s probably going to be next to impossible to find one even if a store gets a shipment of 100.

Bummer, but I’m not going to lose any sleep over this. Nintendo just can’t keep up with demand for whatever reason.

The cover can be pulled straight out, gently, and reinserted if you ever want it back (to my surprise, I found I did). It's pliable enough not to break.

There is a sort of "second detent", though, in the way the inner piece is shaped. Try fiddling with it a bit. It will lay flat underneath the controller plugs.

You can't fit every SNES game on it - they're much larger than the NES titles. But you can fit an absolute crapload of stuff. 227 games on mine, including arcade titles more advanced than SNES games.

This little thing is AMAZING value if you're willing to mess around. I'm not playing anything else.

It's probably the latter. They seem to by flying off of shelves as quickly as stores receive them.

I found a site that sends notifications when it's back in stock on sites like Target and Gamestop:
http://www.nintendoswitchfinder.com/...-stock-alerts/

They seem to sell out fast, like in under 10 minutes.

I lucked out and found one in stock at a Gamestop in WI while I was on vacation. It was the last one they had, and I had gotten there just before noon.
