I've never played Super Mario RPG, but really want to.

Heads up for those of you waiting on the 8bitdo controller (I have two): they absolutely nailed the build quality and feel but didn't get the D-pad design right. It has issues with consistent diagonals which make Contra in particular truly unplayable.

Wires.. I know.. but I would just get an extension cord and stick with the real deal. They were as cheap as $1.80 on eBay last night before the masses started getting their SNESes in hand.

Just in case this helps someone.

So Nintendo World was a complete zoo. There was a line that was continuously about 1000 ft. long (1.5 avenue blocks) at 10:30 or so. I skipped the line and walked to the door because I was going to just look at their 3DS games (I figured people had tickets or something) and a security guard stopped me and said I would have to wait in line to get in even if I wanted to buy a keychain.

I guess I'll stop by next week after all.

I'll probably start with SMW for old time's sake. Then move over to Star Fox, Echo I never really played back in the day. You're gonna love Earthbound btw- amazing game.

I believe the term is "re-sellers"

This is funny to me

Why Spend $80 on an SNES Classic When You Can Install Emulators on a Raspberry Pi and Never Shut the Fuck Up About It?

I'll probably play a few different games and then the thing will sit there unplayed for months.

Then a hack will come out, you'll load it up with ROMs and occasionally play Super Tetris 3 once every year.

I never owned a SNES (I was a genesis kid), so other than SFII, Super Mario World and Mario Kart, these are mostly new to me.

I imagine MANY people know they just want one anyway along with a billion people reselling them. Curious how well that is going on eBay with thousands being listed.

I managed to get one and was 57 out of 60 in line at Best Buy. They sold out in twenty minutes. Looks like they might get easier to get after the jackasses realize there is no resale value here.

Er, not sure if you actually clicked on the article I posted but it was just a sarcastic response to those who like to chime in on NES or SNES classic topics about their emulators.

Anyway, picked mine up from Best Buy today from one of my preorders. I'm not sure where i'll set it up yet, might be fun to just leave in my office at work to mess with once in awhile.

Buddy of mine just got one from a scalper for $100 from CL. Guy has a picture of about 30 of them on a table and had started at $275 and gotten all the way down to $125. Buddy offered $100 and the guy took it. Said he still had "quite a few" left and was willing to take $100. Serves him right, lol.

I did. I saw that it was quite sarcastic. Imagine it's true because any time these system are talked about emulators are brought up.

Kind of wish Chrono Trigger and ActRaiser were on this but I'm happy with what it got like FF3, Zelda, and Secret of Mana.

While the Pi is a great alternative, these emulators that the classics are running are perfect. Plus the hardware is just cool.

No, they have some issues, just like open source emus like snes9x. Yoshi's island on the SNES classic in particular has a weird issue going on with the textures on one of the stages. On the NES classic, there's some weird shimmery effects from the emulation/scaling. But they are pretty good overall.

About as close as you can get to "perfect" emulation is higan/bsnes but that takes a lot more horsepower than these little boxes have.

This hardware review goes pretty heavy on the details of the emulation, especially in comparison to the original hardware. They note an issue on Yoshi's Island at about the 9:40 mark:

So it's not "perfect," but it is pretty good emulation considering the limitations of the hardware, and most of the issues will probably go unnoticed by the majority of users.

Seems like most people in this thread got one of these after just the very first shipment. That's pretty impressive.

Does anyone know if subsequent shipments will be just as plentiful, or will they just sort of randomly trickle out from here?

I started out playing through a few levels of Super Mario World for nostalgia. I have played Earthbound for about five hours and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's a lot more difficult than I though it would be. I have just collected two melodies so far. I have died a couple times. Some of those enemies like the exploding trees can kill you after you kill them.......

Looking for the same info.. didn't want to wait on any kind of line, was hoping it could be an Amazon order at some point.
