As of now yes. But they will be adding Single Player mode later.

From the FAQs :
Does the game have single player?

The game will include single player, however it will come as an update in Summer 2017. We originally started as a multiplayer only game but were able to secure additional funding to expand the game. Single player will consist of objective-based missions where you take control of Jason. You’ll get to see missions that will remind you of the movies, as well as entirely new scenarios to sink your machete into!

We will also include offline counselor bots that you’ll be able to fight against without needing an online connection!

Picked this up yesterday. It's a lot of fun if you can get into a room. I've spent a lot of time waiting and searching.

Been thinking of downloading it but I might wait until the single player mode is available.

I haven't done it yet, but if you go to the official game forums there is a thread you can post in to find a group and everyone says you will get invited almost instantly.

That seems like a bit much and counter-intuitive for an online only game. I like the way the game looks but think I would get bored with it after a few hours. I also think that a first-person view would have made the game a whole lot scarier.

Well, it would make the graphic player deaths look more like the final moment of The Sopranos.

True, but that's just a temporary solution until they get their servers sorted.
Like I said, I haven't done it as I just wait it out until it finds a quick play game for me.

Imagine staring face to pitchfork with Jason after coming around the corner of a cabin. Just sounds a lot scarier.

I think that their priorities should be on getting the online game functioning properly and smoothly. Single player, while nice, is really secondary here.

So what is the price?

The digital version of the game is $40USD while the physical edition is $60USD. You will get the multiplayer portion of the game in early 2017 with the single player portion being patched in during the summer of 2017.

Are there any differences between physical and digital?

No, the cost disparity is simply our team trying to pass on savings to our fans as it costs less to email a game download key rather than create, package and ship a physical item.

I want to pre-order on Xbox Live, Steam, PlayStation Network or a retailer like GameStop or Best Buy. When can I do that?

Right now, the only place to pre-order is through our site. However, we intend to offer the game for pre-order on Xbox Live, Steam and PSN. We also intend to be at physical retail locations as well. More news on that coming soon!

So is the physical copy not out yet? I take it they are holding it back for the single player?

I know for Kickstarter, people who bought the physical copy version get a full game code now and will get a retail version later when it gets released.

My guess is that "single player" is just going to be the same game with bots.

I can understand wanting single player just for longevity sake, but not waiting to buy the game just for that. Playing it with other people is what makes this game so much fun.

Right, but how long is that going to last? If I download the game now I fully expect the multiplayer to be dead in less than three months. If that's the case why waste 40 bucks?

Well if 3 months of enjoyment isn't worth $40 then don't buy it I guess.
Have you ever paid $20 for a movie on Blu-Ray? Did you get over a month of use and enjoyment out of it?

I think 3 months is being generous. Evolve fizzled out in under a month, and that game was more polished and didn't have server issues at launch.

I hope I'm wrong but what I've heard from other podcasts so far, people haven't been too impressed so far.

Some of the game critics/reviewers have been hard on the game, but normal people are having lots of fun. Just look at threads about the game on the official forums or places like Operation Sports and Blu-Ray.com.

It's also worth noting that the appeal of the game is heavily dependent on ones fandom of the F13 franchise IMO. If you aren't into the F13 movies or maybe even slasher flicks in general, then you probably won't get much out of it.

I don't really think there is a way to make a story mode in a game like this or sit around the campfire giving handies and telling ghost stories. This is about all you can get out of a game like this. Now, a Nightmare on Elm Street game could be something pretty cool.
