If he's anything like my son, it'll be the only game he fires up for 2 years... so you never know, he just might unlock all the characters.

As with most games, I suspect the price to unlock will either go substantially lower or free at some point. People will lose interest, Battlefront 3 will be announced, etc.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a casual gamer at best and have logged some decent hours into the first one (for me). My 9 year-old son LOVES the first one and he loved the beta. So yeah, It's downloading as I type. However, we're not spending a flipping dime on this loot crate nonsense. For those of us that can't make it a full-time job to play, it will always be an incomplete game.

To be clear I'm not sure we know how much Vader and Luke cost, and they are available if you don't buy anything, it's just how onerous the grind is. Basically they estimated a good 40 hours of gametime with average rewards to unlock either one, without spending the grind currency on anything else in the meantime.

And apparently progression is completely based on time played, and is not affected at all by how well you perform.

Enjoy playing MP with a bunch of people away from the game just leaving it running to accrue XP.

I played the first mission of the SP and it was good fun. The MP was much tighter than BF1 and I actually could get some killstreaks going. If I had a gripe it's that I was finally able to unlock Luke during MP play and he was "in use"... thus not available to me; and the game ended before I could use my credits
I am enjoying the hell out of the game -- more than CoD WW2 so far.

So, just for clarification, in the beta, if you earned enough points in a match, you could spend them to use a hero for that particular map. I think it was Rey, Solo, Darth Maul, and Boba Fett on that Naboo map.

Is that what's gone away in the retail version of the game in favor of this new unlock system? For example, even if I get 100k (just throwing a number out there) in a match, will I not be able to choose a hero if I don't have them unlocked?

No that hasn't gone away (as far as I know). Here's how I understand it. You accrue credits with each match you play. You use those credits to unlock the hero for use in MP. In the match, you have to accrue enough points to spawn as that hero. So if I'm in a match and I accrue 10k points, but I haven't unlocked Vader with the 60k credit price tag, I won't be able to select and spawn as Vader. So essentially you have to spend 60k in credits to be eligible to spend your match points for that hero.

^^ Oh, that is bullshit. I don't care if I'm not always playing as a critical character... but that shouldn't allow for one hyped up person to always be unlocking a beast and thrashing the rest of us.

Looks like Amazon has it up for presale finally, $12 off, but I wouldn't get it until Nov. 21. Lame. Not sure which is worth it more to me, the price or the timing. I have the 20th off work completely, would maybe find a better place to buy. No GC for me, unfortunately.
