Quite a few of the side quests point you to the next objective with tracking. The one's where they want to be more vague with the location point you to the quest giver.

Yeah, many of the side quests would become simple fetch quests if they gave you the location. They want you to discover it.

For anyone that has used the Fairies to upgrade their armor. Can you level up as much armor to a given level at each one. I found the first one that upgrades pieces for 100 rupees. Can I come back to her as often as I want to do the first upgrade on new armor I acquire? I know for the next level upgrade I would have to find the next fairy.

The only requirement is how many great fairies you've unlocked. It doesn't matter who you visit after that. I've used the second fairy to get the first star upgrade for armor, I've used the first fairy to get the second and third star armor, etc. You can return to each of them as many times as you want too.

Does the fairy which requires 10k ruppies to unlock give you anything special?

Just the opportunity to upgrade your armor to the final level, as far as I know. (I haven't actually unlocked the fourth one yet.)

Yes although not all armor is upgradeable. You also need 10000 rupees for the final fairy so save up.

This is my first Zelda game I've played since the NES. Makes me wonder how much fun I've missed out on over the years and all the systems.

I'm not even sure how long it would take to get 10000 rupees without the snowball trick.

I've been save-scumming the guy near the beach who lets you bet 100 rupees to possibly win 300. Is the snowball trick better?

It only costs 20 and it's fairly easy to get a strike (300 rupees) or at least a spare (100) once you get the hang of it.

Yeah the key at least to me is to get either in front of or in back of the guy to get consistent alignment.

I still can't believe cooking is so tedious in this game. Was I supposed to write the recipes down by hand or something? Or just go to the internet and get everything without having to read journals in each town.

I've never looked at recipes in game. I just bunch items together which give the same stat boost. Anything Hearty should just be cooked (not thrown in a fire) by itself.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (March 3, 2017 - Switch/Wii U)

I'd heard some people say that this is kind of a slow burn at first - that it takes a little while before it gets its hooks into you. That's definitely been my case so far. I've played maybe 4-5 hours (possibly more), and I feel like I'm now just starting to "get it." I'm at a point where I've got a couple big monsters to kill in order to complete a puzzle, at least three shrines in view from the top of the closest mountain, and a whole lot of map to explore.

I'm also noticing a bunch of empty slots in my "damaged" slate, which is encouraging because I'm hoping to get some more toys/tools to play with.

I am a little disappointed that, so far, I haven't been able to use any of my abilities (or whatever they're called in game) in any really creative ways against enemies. Sure, I can throw bombs at them all day, but it'd be neat to be able to use the other abilities in combat. Maybe that'll come later on down the road.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (March 3, 2017 - Switch/Wii U)

More than anything, this game is like a "toy" - you kinda figure out how to use it best to suit your needs in order to have the most fun with. If that's exploring all the nooks and crannies of the giant world, do it, if it's finding out the best way to fight enemies, try that, if it's using your abilities to fuck with the world, have at it! etc, etc... It leaves it up to you to do what you want, how you want and when more than most other games do. Sometimes to it's detriment, but overall, making it a unique experience for everyone.

You do use the abilities against enemies later on. While it's probably not essential, I can't imagine battling some of the bosses without them unless you just have a ton of food and tank hits or something.

Also, I've found that bombs don't really do jack to enemies by themselves (ie: without the explosive barrels, etc.), unless there's another level up somewhere that I haven't gotten to yet.

Have you upgraded your bombs? I use them all the time. Of course, with stronger enemies I use them to stun or push them back when they start attacking so I can get a few hits in.

I just finished off Divine Beast Vah Rhuta and am now spending time gathering gems and materials and solving a few more shrines to build up my heart containers before moving on the main quest.

Oh, and sweet jeebus, this world is HUGE!!

I feel like I have been to a significant portion of the map, and I have yet to see a bear.

Is the camera locked behind you in this game, or is there an option to lock it?
Gonna be asking this question a lot going forward as I think I am done buying games where you have to constantly adjust the camera as you move about the game world.
