I do love that Doom is getting recognized. Great game, but all the nominees shouldn't even be announced for another 6 weeks. Lots of great games still coming out.

As much as I love DOOM it got frustratingly hard at one point. Might have to drop to easier level. Still love this game!

December also separates it from the rest of the award announcement pack (movies, television, theatre, etc.) and has some distance from the gaming awards at E3 too. I guess you could make a case for December since the release schedule for games is pretty much dead once November draws to a close. |

I think they do it now so that they can have the awards ceremony on the same weekend and same location as the Sony Playstation Expo in December. Lots of industry people there already. |

Well my favorite game of the year almost got overlooked, and even then it feels like they shoved it in to make sure they covered their asses...Dark Souls 3 deserves to be on the short list of game of the year....

I think most of the choices are really good - obviously everyone probably has a game that they they prefer and feel is more deserving, but it's a pretty good mix of titles to me. Especially since the list is coming from major gaming publications.

Overwatch to me is the best game to come out in recent years. I say that as someone who rarely enjoyed FPS games.

The Best Action Game category is a tough one. Overwatch has been a total surprise and I wouldn't be shocked if it won.
GOTY...out of that list Uncharted 4 Studio - Blizzard with Overwatch alone they stepped out of their norm and came away with a hit but Naughty Dog is right there as well. I still haven't cracked open Doom and glad to see that game mentioned. Seeing it in the GOTY category instead of COD has to be somewhat a shock to some.... |

Now if we are removing DOOM from the GOTY list and replacing it with Forza Horizon 3, I would be on board with that. |

Surprised that there isn't a category for best DLC/expansion.
Mostly because I'd put Witcher 3's "Blood & Wine", not just in that category, but being that it's a 20+ hour expansion, one of the best games of the year, just on it's own. |

In all fairness, they gave it a nod in the best RPG section, which I was surprised since both that and Legion were expansions.
