Sea of Stars (8/29/23) - PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, XO, XSX - Game Pass

This throwback turn-based RPG is getting some great reviews. Currently a solid 88 on Metacritic.
Looks fun, certainly worth checking out on Game Pass

I gave it 20 more minutes, I'm out. It was the game after BG3, it couldn't compete. It's like dating after a breakup from the best relationship you ever had. There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but nothing inherently right. Imma wait for Starfield. I did some saves in BG3 towards the end to try out different dialogue, I'll try that tomorrow. Or sleeping more Looking forward to trying out Lies of Pi and The Lamplighter's League (and Starfield, of course).

It's hard to explain. BG3 was such a spectacular gaming experience that now nothing lesser will do. And I don't really have time to start something before Starfield, so I'll just wait and just do Speedstorm.

Oh ye of little faith it was out within hours

I've played some more and it's growing on me a little but honestly if Starfield was out I'd be playing that. I can't get into another BG3 playthrough right now, that game is heavy and it consumes you. SoS is "light" and I've been playing it while calling people around doing phone errands. Can't tell you how long I've spent on it because my logging program doesn't pick it up (happens now and then) and I just leave it in the background running so the save file has hours upon hours but I haven't played that much. It's a nice do while you do other things game.

It's a little cliched
Spoiler:
oh look the guy who doesn't do magic gets to beat up bad guys too so even if you're not "special" you're special in your own way

Wednesdays and Thursdays are very light in DSS it's mostly a 6-7 hours F-M game (I can't wait until W-Th to do some of the F-M missions, as soon as they come out I do them I didn't prepay for Starfield so I have a week, I don't know if I can beat it that quick but I can get a chunk done and then maybe finish it off while I do Starfield.

Played about an hour so far. Just enough to get out of the tutorial and get your party and start moving. Enjoying the story and characters and it looks amazing.

Also just found that this is available on PS Plus Extra tier as well. The first full game available at launch for both subscription services.

Yeah. I was just about to buy it on Switch when I saw that. Saved myself $35.

Fun game so far but I'm hoping the characters get a lot more interesting than they are up to where I'm at (only a few hours). I like the combat back and forth of using magic then physical attacks to get MP back.

The gameplay does nothing for me, but I just love staring at it.
To me, the art/graphics on this are far more appealing than most modern AAA games.

Anyone else still playing this? I'm about 8 hours in. They really hit a nice mix of turn based rpg and Zelda style dungeon puzzles. I just got a grappling hook. Excellent soundtrack, too.

I realized I liked pretty graphics Left it pretty early on. Next 3 I'm excited to play are Lies of P, The Lamplighter's League, and The Thaumaturge (really excited about this last one). I also don't like JRPGs and it seems this is one of them so I'm just into the whole genre, I actually avoid them (like Persona 5) and wouldn't have downloaded this if I had known it was a JRPG.

Yep I'm around 21 hours in and I think I'm getting near the end. The story goes in some really unexpected places and has some great characters. Really wonderful game so far.

I need to try this out. Between BG3 and Starfield, it's hard to get time and motivation to play another RPG right now.

I've read that it's close to 30 hours if you do whatever is needed for the True ending. It's super charming but I do think some of these articles I'm seeing claiming it to be either GotY or the best JRPG ever are going too far.

Re: Sea of Stars (8/29/23) - PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, XO, XSX - Game Pass

I'm alternating between this and Starfield (and Persona 5). And honestly, SoS is engaging me a little more than Starfield.
The puzzles have been fun and solveable, the combat is getting more nuanced, and it's got an infectious "brightness" (Teaks encountering the main characters was hilarious).
I'm only about 4 hours in, I just left Moleville. Looks like it's 26-32 hours which works for me.

The devs posted that their annual sales goal was beaten in a week, which is awesome for them. (not sure how that counts Gamepass and PSPLus, if at all).

I don't think it's the 'best ever', but so far it's the most fun one I've played in a long time. A great mix of classic feels, with some new tweaks.

Definitely not my GOTY but it will be high up on my list I expect.

Just wrapped it up and got the "true ending" so ended up taking around 30 hours. Great storytelling and finale.

Nice. I don't recall how many hours in I am but I just visited a sky island and had my team split up. Baking bread at a volcano.

How did you go about getting all the conches? I've done everything else needed for the true ending but I only have 42 of them. Tracking down the other 18 (even with the parrot) sounds miserable. I haven't fought the end boss yet for the normal ending.

I probably had around the same amount as you and it only took me a few hours to get the rest. I just used the parrot to tell me which island had conches and then I just used a guide online which had all the conch locations. Once you unlock the flying around fast travel going back and forth is pretty quick.

Thanks. I have the flying already. I've come this far, I'll probably take the time to do that final part.

I know it's not tied to the ending but I also need to look up which Champions for the mini game I haven't beaten yet. The guy in the clock tower castle won't play me yet and I want to complete that as well. I've already purchased and supplied the portable board.

I usually suck at those board/card games in RPG's but I beat all the Champions for the Wheels minigame pretty easily. I think I only lost like twice in all my matches.

Is the parrot bugged? It keeps saying I have conches left in an area but, when I use a guide the area only has 1 and I have it already.

Went and beat the normal end boss last night. Fun but the devs definitely want you to go for the True, I assume. The ending didn't explain much. I was NOT expecting that last fight sequence.

The parrot wasn't bugged for me it was exactly what it said. Just to clarify even with the true ending you still need to play through the regular ending first. It'll make sense.
