There are shitty 3rd party ones, but the actual Nintendo ones are all used and they don't make any more to sell by themselves. I wonder why.
What's funny is that I didn't think they sold individual ones at all at launch, and recently I've seen individual ones in stores so I thought they just started.

This dock?

Oh, it doesn't come with an AC adapter. They probably stopped selling extra docks once the OLED one came out (and they have white and black OLED versions on their shop but they're sold out). And looking it up they only started selling individual joycons in November 2020.

Ah. Looks like they started selling new stand-alone docks again. Last I checked (around Christmas) they didn't - only refurbished ones.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

It took me most of the work day, but finally I was able to check out and purchase a Pre-Order of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition.
It was sitting in my cart and I kept trying intermittently to check all the way out. Kept saying it was Out of Stock. But finally it went through.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Upgraded to an OLED Switch today. I still have my 2017 Switch set as the primary since the kids all have accounts it, so I'm playing "move saves carefully over to the new one without disrupting anything" game.

People will probably scream about censorship or something but as a parent, I kind of appreciate this (if real):

Is anyone else playing Live A Live? This game is wild. I had no idea about it going in other than being from my favorite Dev, using my now favorite graphic style. I’ve gone through 5 of the stories and I have zero idea where the game is going.

How is it so far? I know it's a remake and on the surface at least it seems a lot like a Saga game, but I still have to work through Triangle Strategy and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is coming out so I skipped it for now.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

It’s really hard to say how it is. Every chapter is different and they’re all fairly short. I’m sure there is more after you do them all but nothing in any of them gives any hints as to how they connect or what will come next. There are no otherworldly components or big bad that spans through chapters.

If you start I would suggest not starting with the prehistoric chapter like I did. The characters can’t talk and it’s pretty slow. My favorite so far (by a good margin) is the one that takes place in Japan. Its area is large compared to others and has a stealth component (not difficult at all but it’s a nice change of pace). The visuals in the Old West chapter are amazing. The combo of pixel art with the cinematography they did is really beautiful.

I'll probably grab it sometime this week.
I have really been neglecting my Switch, but that will change once Splatoon 3 gets here.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Finished up Live A Live over the weekend. Interesting game but probably one I won’t revisit. It was fairly short and was very shallow for a RPG. I saw 3 endings and did all the side content (of which there is very little) in 21 hours. Glad I went with a physical copy so I can resell it. That being said, I am glad I played it and always want to support games like this.

Had a minor heart attack today. Got an email the other day that my copy of Xenoblade 3 SE was being shipped. Today a package arrived. I opened it and was shocked to find just a regular copy of Xenoblade 3 inside. I called up Nintendo to ask what the heck is up with that. Turns out that they are shipping the game now and the special edition content including the steelbook and art book separately in a couple of months. No mention of that inside the pack age. Thanks for that guys. At least they were really quick answering the phone at nintendo.

Yeah, it was on the description when you ordered (which was a crapshow so I don't blame you), and is the primary reason why nintendo handled the preorders for these themselves.

A regular edition game and they couldn't even bother trying to align it with launch date. Thanks Nintendo!

My daughter sent this to me, I figure this thread is the most active Nintendo / Pokemon wise. Kind of a cool video

Can you transfer game saves from the current Switch to this new model? My kid would love one of these systems.

I believe only if you have the online service which puts all your saves on the cloud. Otherwise, they’re locked to the console. I lost my Zelda save from my original Switch, which I sold before the online service was offered.

You can transfer most things through a system to system transfer that I don't believe needs the cloud subscription. But some saves like Animal Crossing won't migrate (they also won't migrate through the cloud, though AC has a different way to do it):

My son would like this. Is there anywhere to preorder it? Nintendo makes everything so difficult. 🙄🙄
