Overall a really fun game. Feels very classic while also new at the same time.

Yeah, I got in some time this weekend on the game, but I still can't catch that UFO.

Still amazing to think this game was done by fans. But then again, after playing the fan levels in Super Mario Maker I understand a little better. There's something about being on the other side of the screen (as opposed to the original programmers) that lets your mind go "what if..." in different ways.

I haven't really played a whole lot yet. I only downloaded it last night after work and played through the first four or five stages but I played the first three twice because I tried to restart so I could retry the special stages for the Emeralds. Although reading more it sounds like even if you miss them you have the opportunity to get them in different stages if you find the big ring. One thing kind of different with this game is that each stage has its own boss. Before you'd go through two stages and then fight Robotnic at the end of the third.

Loved the Genesis games as a kid, and this thread is convincing me to pick this up.

Oh, yeah - no better case than yours for grabbing this game.

The ESRB re-rated Sonic Mania and tweeted that it’s for a physical release.

I wish they would have done a physical release right away. I probably won’t rebuy it unless it’s cheap down the line. I normally prefer physical copies over digital. I actually just finished the game this weekend. Working on getting the Chaos Emeralds (have three left to get) so I can get Super Sonic and the true ending.

I might double dip depending on the price. I enjoyed the game enough that I’d like a physical copy. That Genesis reversible cover is pretty cool.

It is, but also re-emphasizes how terrible it was when they went to the red packaging with that awful font.

I guess I associate the red logo more with Genesis than the black and silver logo for some reason.

Makes sense depending on when you were playing. I just thought it was a bad change - ugly across the whole product line.

Yeah I suppose so. My brother and I got our Genesis later on in its lifespan. I think it was like Christmas of 94 we got it from our grandparents. We had/have games under both style labels.

Glad I held off on the digital release. I'm down for physical on the switch for sure.
