Will this ever become readily available at Amazon or Bestbuy.com or you see this advertised in Sunday fliers?

Amazing how there are over 2,000 for sale at Ebay and the brick and mortar stores don't have it.

Maybe now people are not paying $200 for it anymore but $130-$150 which is still high.

When this was first announced, I thought, day one purchase.

Yeah most of those ebay sellers are now in trouble. Nobody really cares that much about it anymore.
I would have bought day one if it were available but don't really care now. Nostalgia had me excited. I might buy one for around 40 dollars so I can then buy the TWO wireless controllers for 20 instead of using the ridiculous ONE controller with a two foot cord it comes with.
Even then, I'm pretty meh. Nostalgia has worn off. Was just going to try and show my 9 year old the games I grew up with.

One guy locally posted on CL for $100. I bet you could talk him down if necessary. He's posted every week since xmas.

Me too

One guy with zero feedback points at Ebay listed it for $25K and I wrote him a nasty email.

Maybe he's still scalping local stock?

Most likely true. He's also selling Hatchimals (although the demand has died down significantly).

I bet he would take $80 for the NES at this point.

The percent available on ebay compared to units sold doesn't even move the needle. Probably 2 more months before you see adequate stock. As soon as prices started to come done a bit, the ability to mod the unit to 600+games brought the price right back up if not higher. $180 for a device with 600 games pre-loaded is very fair even if Nintendo put that out like that on the retail stores shelves.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

From Feb 9:

http://www.autoworldnews.com/article...ores-check.htm

This is from the last 2 paragraphs:

"The miniature version of NES has reportedly been facing supply shortage. As previously reported, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has apologized to the disappointed fans for the inventory shortage and even promised an increased production size to satisfy the continuous and growing demand for the NES Classic Edition."

"The new console is considered a phenomenal hit for exceeding its projected sales target. As reflected with the recent earnings call of the company, the Nintendo NES Classic Edition has already sold 1.5 million units around the globe."

Did they really expect this to flop!?!?

If they thought 1.5 million was "good", then they're idiots. They could've easily sold 5 million by now. When it was announced, it was BY FAR the most "shared" product announcement I've ever seen on facebook.

So apparently this thing has been hacked to pieces now. I saw on YouTube there are guys who have loaded all 700+ NES games onto their mini, and also been able to emulate OTHER SYSTEMS

I already got an RPi, but that's pretty awesome.

What good is emulating other systems if all you have is an NES pad?

I still wish they would have used the traditional controller port so you could hook an old Advantage up to it.

I saw a video yesterday where a guy had all 700 plus games on his but he never told how it got to be that way. I would love to know how. I only have the 30 that came with the system.

There are a lot of videos on how to hack it. Here's one:

Yeah, anything you can plug into that Wii nunchuck port will plug in here too. Dunno how well that stuff works out of the box, but the physical connections are the same.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Honestly, the Analogue NT Mini is looking more and more appealing to me at this point... and it's a whopping $450!
http://www.analogue.co/pages/nt-mini

The thing that makes it more appealing is that it's a hardware clone (like the less expensive RetroUSB AVS) instead of a software emulator (like the Classic NES, or Raspberry Pi, the latter of which I currently use).

But what really makes it interesting now is that the lead engineer has released an unofficial firmware for the thing that allows it to load ROMS directly from an SD card (no Everdrive needed...) AND, this is the big one... it lets you pick any of these different cores to clone, so it's no longer limited to just NES/Famicom games:

* Sega Master System
* Game Gear
* Colecovision
* NES/Famicom
* Atari 2600
* Atari 7800
* Intellivision
* Odyssey^2
* Adventure Vision
* Supervision
* RCA Studio 2
* Fairchild Channel F
* Videobrain
* Arcadia 2001
* Creativision
* Gameboy
* Gameboy Color

It's a hefty price, but damn that's a lot of value. That's basically every Video Game system from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations, right? And it should have better performance than any software emulator running those same games.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Seriously - I get the "value" of the other emulators - at least above the original, single purpose - but when you venture up towards $500 you could build all kinds of emulator machines to emulate a LOT more than that thing could.

Also, I get pretty irked by the constant implication that this "clone hardware" as you call it is somehow definitively better than software emulation. A clone is still a clone.. and we have seen plenty of bad ones over the years that function much worse than quality software.

Perhaps someone who has real knowledge about FPGAs can chime in and educate me. But as far as I understand, emulation is still emulation, whether hardware- or software-based. The quality of the reproduction is still going to depend on the quality of the work put into it. There is no guarantee the Nt Mini is 100% accurate even though it is a "hardware clone".

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

The NES Mini has certainly been a hit with fans and retro gaming enthusiasts but it has certainly been hard to get hold of. NeoGAF member Roarer works for a large Scandinavian retailer and has heard from Nintendo and their distributor Bergsala that the system is no longer being produced and will be phased out by the Kyoto based company.

Roarer says that whilst production has ended they will still be getting a few more shipments. The last shipment should arrive in April or May and then that’s it. Good luck getting hold of one if you haven’t managed to do so yet.

We just got word from Nintendo (or rather, their Nordic distributor Bergsala) that the NES Classic Mini has reached its end of life and will be phased out. According to them production has ended and we will be receiving a few more shipments before everything dries up.

By our estimates, we (as a single retailer) might not be able to fulfill all orders that have been placed so far. Our last shipment should arrive in April or May, and after that there won’t be any more shipments.

Just a rumor right now but knowing Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.

Nintendo just came out and apologized for the production issues and said it would be more readily available in the coming months. I don't think they would have said that if the above story is true.

This would be the ultimate "Fuck you" to their customer... it would ensure that I'd never buy another product from them again.

The above story is also about European distribution. It isn't called the NES Mini in the US.
