But if Nintendo did this, we'd get complaints about cost and how ridiculous it would be that this thing was like 30 bucks more expensive with wireless controllers.

Now the short cords are unforgivable, but I didn't realize these were plugged in, cant they sell an extension?

That's just the thing; they won't bother because they know people are buying it anyway.

Bottom line, longer wires wouldn't even have been a cost issue!

I still don't get this need for longer controller wires - don't you want the console close to you so you can switch between games without having to get up and go over to the TV? I would!

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Thin controller wire run across the room to the console > fat HDMI cable run across the room to the TV mounted on the wall

After pouring over the list of games again, I'm increasingly more lukewarm on it.

I own or have played through a good 2/3rds of them recently and won't be revisiting them anytime soon. I'm not interested in a handful of them. Pretty sure I own a couple I'm forgetting. Then there is Pac-Man and Galaga, both great but at this point I'd much rather pop in the Championship Editions.

That only leaves a few I'm truly interested in revisiting like Ninja Gaiden, Tecmo Bowl and Gradius. I've always loved Gradius, but due to the circular nature of the game I much prefer an actual joystick to the d-pad. A local bar/arcade has an original machine I've been getting my fix on. So that leaves two.

Despite the solid lineup it still feels like it should have had just a few more of the games/series that time has forgotten like the aforementioned Paperboy, maybe some Double Dribble, Adventure Island, Kid Nikki, Rygar, Spy Hunter, Super Dodgeball. A couple other faves from that era that may or may not hold up but would be cool to see again, Skate or Die and T&C Surf Designs. Sure there would be more rights/royalty issues but a guy can dream. Seems like I should just get a knock off system or find a way to hook up my NES and see if it actually works.

Well, yeah, but you forgot the actual issue, so...

Thin controller wire run across the room to the console, but having to get up and walk over to it to switch games < fat HDMI cable run across the room to the TV mounted on the wall, but being able to switch games without getting up

Gonna be complaints either way.

I get up to swap discs. A simple home button on the controller would have been nice.

Even if you are happy with having the console right in front of you, 2.5 feet is way too short. I wouldn't even be able to sit back on the couch unless the console was on my lap or on the couch next to me.

I agree with pretty much everything in your post. I own every one of the games included with the mini (as well as about 300 others). But getting my NES to recognize them is an excercise in futility.

I had been using my Ouya to experience all those old Nintendo games in HD, but the controller really ruins the experience (the PS3 controller is oñly slightly better). Plus theres a little bit of input lag when emulating and that just makes already difficult games even more so. Timing is everything.

I went ahead and ordered that new AVS from RetroUSB. It's supposed to arrive in a few days. It's a bit more expensive but if it's as good as all the reviews make it out to be, it should be the last NES system I'll ever need. Plus I'll have my entire collection available.

Same for me. There's probably at least two feet in play just from moving the controller in my hands lol.

As usual with Nintendo, terrible decision.

Truth be told, I'll be using mine on my work desk as well. So the cables thing isn't a huge issue for me, but it does seem poorly thought out.

I still can't get over that 2.5 FT cord. And wasn't the original NES controller cord around 7.5 FT? WTF were they thinking.

The controller is also an accessory to the Wii U. That explains the controller cord length, even if it is for a "secondary" purpose.

Still not on Amazon. I had them notifies me on email if they received them. You best bet is to camp out store like Target and hopefully grab one on Nov. 11

What's funny is that they don't even need that "console". The whole thing could've just as easily fit into the controller, which could've plugged straight into the TV (with a reset button on the back of the controller, or something). They only have that console solely for the sake of nostalgia, which is all this thing is; a 'Member Berry.

Half the reason I want it is to retrofit a pi into the casing and to have new first party controllers. Hopefully somebody comes up with a gamepad to USB adaptor.

No. There are _no_ excuses for Nintendo on this. Your point is valid, except they even put longer cords on the actual Wii Classic Controllers . One of the NES reviews put them side-by-side.

IGN's review. I'm out on this. Didn't realize till this if I wanted a second badly designed controller I would have to pay another 10 bucks. Nintendo you completely amaze on your decisions to lose tons of money to save so little.

SORRY just realized someone posted the video review from IGN. My bad.

Techcrunch gave a pretty glowing review:
