I went to GameStop this afternoon to ask if they were taking pre-orders for this. The girl behind the counter said not at this time but they are taking people's names and phone numbers to inform them when it shows up in their system.

So I went ahead and wrote mine down on the sheet. I have no confidence that I will get a call but it's worth a shot in order to get one.

We have a few of these games on the Wii Virtual Console (we didn't get a WiiU) and they're simply hard to play because of the fuzzy SD output of the Wii. I'm hoping with the HDMI connection these games will be crisp, vivid, and easy on the eyes so we can enjoy them more.

They don't scale up with HDMI- they were made to be displayed on CRTs, and look vastly better on them. But it's not like we really have a choice.

I was basing it off the current prices($5) which haven't changed since the Wii debuted 11 years ago.

This may be the case, but you can get vastly better hi-def output than the shit Nintendo has produced on the Wii U VC.

Maybe the idea is that you have the console next to you and a long HDMI cable instead.

But seriously, I think they figured most people would have it tethered to the Wii remote, so it shouldn't be very long.

Wireless is the way to go, anyway, but of course if it's tethered it's not wireless so eh. Still getting it, but a short cord is not the way to go, I think.

Does that work with the Classic Edition console? The original post in this thread just talks about that as a way to play VC games on the Wii and WiiU using the Classic Edition controller...

Maybe the chord connecting the console to the TV is long, with the idea being that it's not something you keep under your TV, but on your coffee table, or something pull out once in a while to plug into the TV, instead always connected like a traditional console.

Could be that this is just a display unit anyway, so not necessarily indicative of what the final hardware will be anyway.

People have to also keep in mind, a wired controller is helping keep the cost down to $60. Any type of wireless controller would only jack up the price.

So charge $75 and make it wireless. Still cheap and hits all the right nostalgia buttons.

The audience this is aimed at no longer sits on the floor 3' from the television like we did as children.

Wireless isn't realistic for this niche. I think they hit the price/games combo perfectly, but there's no excuse for four-foot cords. They need to wise up and put nine-footers on these things like they did with the Smash Bros. GC controllers.

They may be getting too hung up on the fact that these are "Classic Controllers", but come on, guys. The primary purpose of these things is clearly not to be plugged into a Wiimote.

I actually agree that the controllers being wired adds a bit to the nostalgia factor for me but I agree the cords should be longer. I'm so used to playing close to the tv when playing retro games though. I have an old tv set up in a back room where there's a bed close enough to lay on or a couch to sit on to play comfortably but I get that not everyone has the same sort of set up where playing with wired controllers is easy/comfortable.
