Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

I've seen SNES classics in the wild twice now. One at Best Buy on the shelf and one at Meijer (Midwestern grocery store / gen, merch combo store, think like Walmart, except they came first).

Plus if you follow Wario64 on twitter, he posts whenever they are up online, they've been in stock for much longer periods than they were before these days.

Last time I was in Target, I saw 6 or 7 in the case, practically overflowing. I hadn't seen one in the previous couple months however, before that I always saw one or two in the case.

I've seen them a couple of times in So. Cal (Target and Wal-mart) but they do sell out by the next day (I sometimes go after I drop the kids off to get groceries).

They must not be selling on eBay or Frank and Sons anymore. Because this is scalper central, you can often catch a bunch of "hot" items on the shelf around the time the return policy is almost up from when they originally came out. Funny how that works.

I heard rumors it might come back. But after buying two supposedly authentics and ending up with knockoffs, and going through the hassle of returning them and getting my money back, I went to the one guy that I knew was selling the real thing. I didn’t care about the higher price.

Back on stores on June 29 actually means back on ebay for $600

Why can't Nintendo mass produce this so you can get it at Amazon, Wal-Mart, Best Buy anytime you want it?

So will this thing actually be available this time?
No don't be a fool they will never be available at the $59.99 retail price.

Nintendo is full of shit!

All the Ebay dorks will buy them online with some illegal software or code before regular people can get their hands on them.

The SNES Classic only ever had limited online availability and pre-orders. If you missed out on the pre-orders, you could still get them launch day in-store, and they've since been available in-store a lot more often than online.

I've seen the SNES classic just sitting in the case at Target 5 or 6 times recently when I've been there.

If this run of the NES mirrors what they've been doing with the SNES, it will in fact be gettable for MSRP. Not easily, but absolutely doable.

I see the SNES classic from time to time. I bought mine at Best Buy. They had a few in stock.

They really should have added another controller, like with the SNES. I’m assuming the cord length is the same as before.

How many of the included games are simultaneous two-player? They probably figured it wasn't worth the price increase.

Also, the two possible improvements I think this run could have over the original run are longer controller cords, and a firmware update to improve the emulator and add features.

Yeah I was thinking that might have been a reason, more of SNES’s games are simultaneous.

Are they? For having two controllers, the SNES mini seemed pretty lacking in two player games.

9 of the 21 games have official two player modes: Contra III: The Alien Wars, Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy III, F-Zero, Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Course, Secret of Mana, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, and Super Mario Kart.
http://en-americas-support.nintendo....sic-edition%3F

This video details that Yoshi's Island has two hidden two-player minigames that you can access with a cheat code, and Earthbound can be controlled with both controllers simultaneously:

So anywhere from half to over half of the games on the SNES has two player capabilities. I think the racing and fighting games are what prompted Nintendo to include a second controller.

NES Classic has 9 games that are alternating two player, meaning you only need one controller. There are 8 that are simultaneous two player, out of 30 total: Balloon Fight, Bubble Bobble, Double Dragon II: The Revenge, Dr. Mario, Ice Climber, Mario Bros., Super C, and Tecmo Bowl
http://en-americas-support.nintendo....multiplayer%3F

8 out of 30 is only about a quarter of the games (26%).

If they made the cord longer, I would buy one in a heartbeat. I bought one when they were first released, but ended up selling it to a friend a few months later.

Extension cords are ridiculously cheap. I bought a pair and use them for my SNES as well. The living room is wide!

Final Fantasy 3 was two players?

You can assign party members to different players during battles, although player one controlled the map.

I expected it more because they seem to have legitimately addressed the shortage issue with the SNES, and finding a second controller for those who wanted it was significantly harder than even finding the dang console. It's also going to look like more of an oversight with the SNES configuration selling alongside it.

Oh well, we'll see what June 29 actually brings. It's not like they've officially specified anything.

I would expect exactly this many changes in the manufacturing and packaging process since the first release of the NES Classic: 0

The only logical upgrade one could possibly expect is a longer cord. I wouldn't hold your breath for anything else.

Yeah, I don't expect any changes except maybe the controller cord too.

Nintendo always say they will continue to replenish the stock but it never happens and Ebay is the only option.

Inaccurate. Plenty of people have commented about seeing additional units in stores.
