Decided to try the aforementioned software. Loaded about 60 on there in addition to the stock 30. Mostly just stuff I still own or owned/played back in the day. Pretty cool. Playing some classics with my 12 year old has been a blast. She's really taken to Rampage, Paperboy, Q*bert, RC Pro Am and Burgertime. I was kinda bummed to find out Frogger and Tapper were never on the NES. I think those are the only two games missing from that era that I wanted to play again. I am impressed that the SNES controller can be used for a second player, so that's been nice.
Now I just need to drop some coin on a wireless pad. Any consensus on the best one? The 8bitDo ones on Amazon look nice.

Historically speaking, the 8bitdo one probably will be the best when it launches. Also be aware they just started selling kits to convert the actual Nintendo controllers to wireless. Should those work flawlessly (and I am skeptical) they'll absolutely be the most authentic way to do it, if also the most expensive.

Edit: There is a homebrew NES game called Frogger Ultimate Champion. RetroUSB sells it on a cartridge:

The one I would have like to have had was Moon Patrol. I don't think there was ever an accurate home port of that game with the music and graphics. There was a pretty good one for the C64, but it didn't have the city background graphics or the same level of detail in the mountains and just wasn't quite the same. Probably wouldn't have difficult to make an arcade accurate port to the NES.

It was developed by Konami, published by Sega, and licensed in the US to Parker Brothers (cartridge) and Sierra ("magnetic media," aka floppy and cassette).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frogger
It was released on a ton of platforms up through 1983. Then from 1984 to 1996, nothing. Then in 1997 there was a "remake" for PS1 and Windows, and then 1998 saw releases on Game Boy, Super Nintendo and Genesis (it being the last cartridge released for both SNES and Genesis).

So about 8 years where the game disappeared from the market, including the entirety of the NES's lifespan.

I think the rights for Frogger must've been tied up in some legal limbo for a while.

You can install a MAME emulator and the arcade versions of Frogger and Tapper if you want.

I kind of want to install it, but my parents are about to move and give me their Frogger arcade cabinet.
I’d love to have Tapper, the local barcade got rid of theirs.

You can use a Mac, but you have to create a Windows partition on your hard drive in order to run the program. You can do this without purchasing a copy of Windows. Google it.

It outsold the Switch, PS4 and Xbox One in June
At least it is for Nintendo, the Japanese gaming giant that topped the game console sales charts in June with its nostalgia-laced, miniaturized Nintendo Entertainment System. The $60 mini console outsold the likes of Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One — in addition to outselling Nintendo's own Switch and 3DS consoles — in the month of June. That's especially impressive considering that the NES Classic Edition was only re-released on June 29.
In just two full days of sale, the NES Classic Edition outsold every other game console available. "This is the first time a Nintendo Entertainment System console has led in monthly unit sales since NPD tracking began in 1995," NPD Group executive director David Riley wrote of June's hardware sales.

Geez. I wonder if there's just that much demand for this thing or if it's mainly scalpers who remember how rare it was and will be disappointed in a few weeks to not be able to sell them over retail. I mean, the price helps as well.

I'm gonna call BS on one of their stats. First time they led in sales since '95? Are they not counting the Wii? Didn't that decimate all competitors month after month(once production ramped up)?

They do specify "Nintendo Entertainment System," do anything but the NES and SNES count as NES's? Because if they're just talking Nintendo Systems I'm sure the DS and other portables have also held the spot at times.

I think it's a bit tongue-in cheek, and they mean the original NES, and only the NES. The NES was discontinued in 1995, the same year that NPD started, so it may have been listed on their original sales charts.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)
Did the original Wii outsell the corresponding Playstation and Xbox models in the late 90's through the oughts? I know it sold a crap ton over time, but maybe the month to month was lower than the other two.
And I think there's a lot of folks like my wife and I who initially passed on these classic systems because of the stock shortages, but once they became easy to find, we decided to splurge. Each one was just ready on the shelf at (two different) Gamestop locations. We weren't even looking for the SNES, my wife was buying Octopath Traveler and they had it on the display shelf so we grabbed it.

Pretty sure the Wii outsold them both (each), period. As an average, aside from availability dips, the month-to-month would have to be correspondingly higher.

The Wii released November 2006, so no, nothing with the 90s.

You know it's pretty interesting playing this with my 12 year old daughter. We're having a blast.
She's not afraid to try any of them. I'd say her favorites thus far would have to be Paperboy, Rampage & Q*bert. She had a slumber party this weekend with friends and they took turns playing for a couple hours. Just good old school couch multiplayer. We haven't delved into any of the strong single player games yet like Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man or Castlevania.
Thinking about it, I don't think her age group would have taken to something like this 5-7 years ago. Since they've all grown up with games like Minecraft, Terrarria and Roblox they have a different perspective than kids that grew up in that gaming period between the N64/PS1 gen and Minecraft. I think those kids would have seen all these as "old games." Now, to the Minecraft generation, they're just simply "games."
