And it's such a bullshit way to do things on Wal-Mart"s end. If I can add it to my cart, then it should actually stay in my cart, and not get removed because someone else or a scalper bot was able to input payment info faster.

Same. I've gotten it into my cart a couple of days in a row, but it's gone before I could checkout.

Yeah, once it's in the other persons cart it really should tell us it's unavailable.

But it's a ridiculously high number of people trying to get probably 50 items, so it isn't a surprise.

And... it became 3 days in a row for me. Ridiculous.

I was actually at a computer this time, but I didn't see any stock show up on the Walmart site. Just third party sellers at $500.

I gave up and placed an order today for a Raspberry Pi to build my own.

Yeah, this release prompted me to spruce up my RetroPie.

Emulators are great if you want to show off the games in HD... and they're fun to play for about 10 minutes. Once you start noticing the precision of the controller and character movements just arent where they need to be, they become a lot less fun. You'll wish you were playing it on actual hardware. The turn-based rpgs (final fantasy, dragon warrior, etc) are fine, but any platformer (which probably make up 85% of the NES library) are extremely difficult on an emulator.

I find that has more to do with the controllers and hdmi/tv lag than the emulators themselves.

Finding a good USB NES controller is tough because the d-pad on most of them is atrocious, the best similar one I've found is the Buffalo SNES style USB controller. TV lag though, especially on LCD/LED TVs, can be a deal breaker.

Edit: Added controller link, because yeah, that thing is great.

I guess it all comes down to what you use. I use NES.Emu on the Ouya (along with all of its other gaming system counterparts) and they run perfectly. My only issue was when I moved the Ouya to my 4K television, I got a slight lag. But that issue is inherent to the TV/HDMI and would impact other devices including the NES Classic.

Edit: Rich beat me to the punch

The NES Classic edition is just running an emulator also. Retropies, etc aren't any different in the general sense. The quality depends on the quality of the emulator (which isn't even that good on the Classic Edition) and how much input lag you have on your TV.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

I also use NES.emu (along with Atari, SNES, MD, PCE, etc) on the Ouya. The controller is just plain awful. The PS3 controller is a better option but only because the d-pad and buttons are better. But the inaccuracy feels the same with either controller. Maybe a USB controller would be better, but I've never tried one on the Ouya. I play on a gaming monitor with a 1ms response time so I don't think my "TV" is the issue. Every gaming device I own gets hooked up to that monitor and the only time the controller ever feels off is when I'm playing the emulators. If you think it plays fine, great. But to me there is definitely a noticeable difference between an emulator and using an actual cartridge on proper hardware. I stopped playing NES games on my Ouya and went with the AVS because of it. Night and day.

Good to know, meatpants, because I've often wondered about just going for the Ouya and your opinion helps me out.

You can also get controller to USB converter so you can use the actual controllers.

Were you using the PS3 controller via USB or BT? Because BT lag is definitely noticeable on these older titles.

Also lag is definitely more noticeable in older 2D titles than say a 3D one.

Strictly Bluetooth. Like I said, I've never tried any controllers via USB on the Ouya. Maybe it's better.

Don't get me wrong, initially I was all about the Ouya. There's even an old thread somewhere around here where I was praising it. As far as emulating goes, it does a great job. You have access to literally thousands of games across numerous systems and for the most part they're all very playable and they look fantastic in HD. Just don't be expecting to beat Mike Tyson's Punch Out anytime soon, because the timing is definitely off (at least in my experience) and that game doesn't leave much room for error.

(By comparison, Punch Out was the first cartridge I played on the AVS and I ran the table (14-0) on my first try. The lag was most definitely the culprit for all my NES failures on the Ouya)

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Wow I'd be super-pissed if I "scored" one from Walmart.com.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/walmart-h...194224541.html

Thank you for your recent Walmart.com order of the Nintendo Entertainment System: Classic Edition. Due to the extreme volume of customers placing orders for this product at the same time, we unfortunately received more orders than we can currently fulfill with our existing inventory.
We expect to receive additional NES systems within the next two weeks and should deliver your order in advance of the holidays; however, if you would prefer to not wait and cancel your order, you can do that by accessing your My Account page. Your order will remain in processing status until we receive the item and ship it to you, or until you cancel it.
Walmart takes great pride in ensuring the satisfaction of our customers and I know we fell short with this issue. Please accept my sincere apologies for disappointing you during the holiday season.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

A long as it shows up before Christmas I think most people would be ok - at least compared to the alternative in waiting in line in the morning or hoping it shows up elsewhere.

Haven't heard much about it being available elsewhere yet either.

Did Amazon get any more since the first day? I haven't gotten any more notification emails and figured they would have it as a lightening deal on BF.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

I don't think so. This just gets more and more ridiculous. You'd think (how often do we have to use this phrase with Nintendo?) they would get stock into stores in time for Black Freakin' Friday.

This about puts to rest the idea that Nintendo is actually really really smart and just "managing scarcity". If this were the case, they built up plenty of demand.. and failed completely to capitalize on it by unloading tons of stock on the single biggest day of the year to capture those buys.

Yeah, Nintendo was completely caught off guard by the demand for this thing.

Hopefully they'll learn from it for the inevitable SNES Classic Edition.

Don't be fooled. Nintendo does this purposely. They will continue the "scarcity" for probably 2-3 months after Christmas. You'll be able to find these things everywhere come March or so.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Nintendo has always been pretty deliberate with their pricing. They've been even more stingy with Player's Choice titles this generation (then again, they shafted the WiiU in the first place), and New Super Mario Bros U is still full price, despite being a launch title. No way will they allow this to be a clearance item next year.
