If this ends up being the case then this will go against everything we know about how Nintendo releases things in the last 10+ years. They much prefer to be sold out everywhere and be talked out then have their product full on every shelf.

So yeah, initial preorders aren't even going to be completely fulfilled on release date, which tells me it won't he available everywhere at all, and they're also restricting purchases per person means limited quantities. The initial people rushing to buy this seem exactly like the preorder market.
I think we're talking about two different things. Nintendo's intent for this is for it to be a simple impulse-purchase toy, hence the price-point, short cables, not wifi, etc. But fucking nerds are jumping in on it initially, much to N's surprise, as they figure these nerds already have all these games on their various wifi enabled Nintendo devices (and be honest, we all here already have most of the games in this collection that we like somewhere accessible to us). So what you have is this; something intended for a very casual/impulse market being initially gobbled up by fucking nerds. Nintendo didn't suggest preorders to retailers because of their intent for this product. I'm pretty sure they're gonna be surprised by this initial reaction.

I don't agree with that assessment at all, whether it be Nintendo's intent for the product or any sort of surprise about the audience reaction.

Saw this on NeoGAF, but Japan gets a Famicon version.

But it'll just have even shorter cords! (you know, 'cause Japanese apartments are so small... anyone?)

Actually, it looks like it does have hardwired controllers like the original Famicom and they're actually miniaturized like the system itself. !!! Imagine that. Short cords are bad enough; this is frickin' insane if the video is accurate.

The Famicom one if I saw the games right actually get River City Ransom as well (which I would have gladly traded for any of the other fighting games for). Depending on how much it would be to import, I'm half tempted to go after that instead.

In a press release (and new trailer) this morning, Nintendo said that the sleek new system will let you maintain up to four different suspend points for each game. You’ll also be able to see the original NES manuals by scanning QR codes that appear on your screen. And each game will be playable in three display modes: CRT filter (which adds a scan-line effect), 4:3 (which maintains the original aspect ratio), and Pixel Perfect (which turns every pixel into a perfect square).

The bad news? Bob Mackey over at USGamer got hands-on time with the system, and he has two nitpicks that will likely be very, very annoying: 1) the controllers are wired, and the wires are very short; and 2) in order to use save states or switch games, you have to hit the Reset button on the console. There’s no “home” button functionality on the controller.

God DAMN it.

the controllers are wired, and the wires are very short
Not at all surprised, but still incredibly disappointed. As usual, Nintendo refuses to utilize common sense or listen to feedback. People have been talking about this online since the system's announcement.

This is an absolute dealbreaker for me. Would have loved one, but I require my electronics to actually be usable.

Again, you can get all these games on numerous devices, handheld and/or wireless. To the people bitching about short wires and no wifi, this product is not for you - you can already play these games the way you want. This is meant for others - stocking stuffers and such.

Yep. Went from a Christmas gift for my daughter that her and I can play together, to nope I'll pass. Don't care about wireless, Wi-Fi, etc. just give cables long enough on the controllers.

A grand idea, just not implemented. I'll buy an overstock deeply discounted 6 months later (and probably still be disappointed).

Yeah, i'm disappointed that Nintendo didn't fix the short controller wires given the obvious complaints from the community. I'll still probably get it, but I was hoping that was the one no brainer thing they could adjust.

I feel the same way. I didn't expect it to have wireless controllers at that price, but at least have the cords long enough so that i'm not sitting two feet from the TV screen. This just went from a must have to flipping a coin to decide if I buy one or not.

I have most of the games on other systems anyway, so it's no big loss if I don't purchase one.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

The Mini-NES Makes Classic Games Look Better Than Virtual Console.

If you’re in the United States, you still can’t pre-order Nintendo’s upcoming Mini-NES, due to be released on November 11. But you can look at its emulation capabilities compared to the Wii U virtual console thanks to a new video by GameXplain.

The head-to-head match-up compares video capture from three games: Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Kirby Adventure. Based on the evidence presented by GameXplain, the Mini-NES seems to render the games at higher quality as well as more accurately, with options to output the game in 4:3 ratio or Pixel Perfect, a mode that shows the games as they would have appeared on PCs while in development.

As you can see, the Mini-NES output (left) is much sharper and more vibrant than the Wii U virtual console version (right). The Mini-NES also appears to have much better sound quality as well.

This comes on-top of news yesterday, both good and bad, about some of the Mini-NES’s other features, including the terribly short cords that the controllers come with.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Short controllers don't bug me because I play right by the TV anyways. My bed to the TV can't be more than 5 feet apart. So as long as that works, I'm game. Worst case, buy a long ass HDMI cable. Picture looks amazing and some great games at an unbeatable price.

I'm not bothered by the short controllers. When I use my Retron I'm always close to the TV anyways so I'm just kind of used to it and it sort of adds to the retro experience.

I'll still get it, even if I just hook it up in the office for a break from work.

I do hope they'll finally do what's right and release one with a marketplace to bring the VC to it, but I'm guessing this will be what the NX does in a better home-and-portable manner.

The super short chords is just mind boggling. It would cost another $.10 a unit to make them 3-6' long. Wonder if we'll see extension chords for sale like what was available for the GC.

This is still the bigger gripe I have. If they didn't want to make it online capable it would have been nice if they could have gotten more games for it (at least all the NES titles currently on Virtual Console) or had a way to get more games somehow added. I still think it's worth the $60 for what we're getting though.
