Any word on when pre-orders will start? I'm wondering if there will be shortages when its released.
Also, will the games be pillarbox on HDTVs?

The NES is one of the only consoles I never owned, so I imagine I'll pick this up for some non-nostalgia.

I'm sure there are some good games on that system, but to me, most look like shit... and I loved my Genesis.

The more I think about this mini NES, the more I realize Nintendo is shooting themselves in the foot. There are so many classic games that could be leveraged via expansion or a larger initial library and charge more... but instead we get 30 and the only way to get, say, 60 or 120 or 240 games is to buy another mini NES that may or may not ever exist? Dumb. I'd love to see NES wrestling, track and field, etc and would gladly pay double for this system if it was all inclusive.

I'm not really interested in this, as I've bought most of the included games on the virtual console over the years and played them as much as I'd want to. That said, I've had a lot of non-gamer friends send me links to it and gush about how they're buying one. It's definitely hitting a nostalgia sweet spot for a lot of people.

I agree. Rights, smights....Nintendo is missing the boat to understanding what they really have. Will people buy this? ABSOLUTELY. Probably in droves, because of the Nintendo name. But they could set themselves up for a while if they just went beyond the tiny little box. Think about it...add the Virtual Console service, include wifi, open it up to DEVELOPERS. I get that its Nintendo, this is nothing new, but think about the implications. But people will buy their little console and play it for 3-6 months just like the Wii and then it will collect dust. Guaranteed.

Does Nintendo still have issue with Amazon? I'm surprised a pre-order isn't available yet.

A huge difference is that this is an actual Nintendo product versus that Genesis release that is by a third party company (atGames) that licensed the Sega Genesis name, but doesn't have the same build/quality control that the original hardware had. Reviews seem pretty harsh for that unit off on Amazon.

Also, that Genesis doesn't have an HDMI port

Actually, strike that. I may buy one and gut it for an emulation Raspberry Pi enclosure.

And why would you have all the Sonic games except 3?

I hope we see an N64 version of this one day.

I'm 100% down for this. Will probably just be worth it to take on trips and play at my Mother in Law's house. And kill it at Double Dragon / SMB 3 / Kirby / Excitebike / Tecmo Bowl.

They did have an issue which led to the Wii U not being sold on Amazon.

But that's a random aside. Just seems like it's a basic announcement, with pre-orders to follow. Speaking of which, was this announced via basic press release? I guess E3 is about "new new new" so maybe that's why it wasn't announced then.

This is cute and if they did an SNES version I'd probably get it, even though I own an original SNES and carts for it.

But yeah, it seems like people who want a larger selection and to be able to curate their own selection are better off getting a used Wii, probably for less money.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

I think this is pretty cool and hope that an SNES version is in the works. The only thing I wish they would have done was used the updated rounded NES controllers. They were so much more comfortable than the rectangle ones.

I don't even recall anything but the rectangle controllers, other than the Advantage and Max controllers.

$60 is to much. I'll likely grab it someplace at sometime around $30-40.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

If you were buying all this back in the '80s when these games were new, and adjusted for inflation, it would be around $3,500.00.
