It's alright, once the Switch comes out to underwhelming numbers it'll be time for them to clean house.

I just don't understand why they decided that this will be better off as a toy/collectible than an actual gaming system.

I was at Target yesterday and asked the guy if they had any. He said he hasn't seen any since the start of the year and hasn't been told they will be getting any more in.

Yeah, there's rumblings that Nintendo might discontinue production on this thing, making it a limited-edition item. They probably realized that giving these premium games away on this console for $2 a game is too good a deal, and that if everyone buys this, they won't pay $5 per game for these same games on the Switch.

Yep time to get on on that RetroPie action. The funny part of course is by announcing and then subsequently shorting production this box, Nintendo will likely have increased the number of people looking to acquire their retro games through other means, resulting in even less people buying them for their new console. So once again, well played Nintendo.

Eh, I think the percentage of audience that would go the emulation route is fairly small and basically insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

I don't think they're a small group, but I think they've already gone that route and they were never the intended audience for this thing anyway. In that regard, I agree that they're insignificant to Nintendo.

Didn't some of you think this was going to be discounted or in the dump bins by now?
I am quite surprised that this console has become next to impossible to find, especially at MSRP.
Oh well, I really wasn't planning to get it anyways. Plenty happy with my 2 current consoles.
Looking forward to what might happen if an SNES retro-console hits the market.

I don't see any way that this is actually a limited edition item. Nor have I seen any "rumblings" of that being the case on any gaming sites.

I don't think any retailer has seen any of these since Christmas Day (probably a few days earlier).
If Nintendo were at all interested in selling more, they would be back in stores by now.
I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped bothering with them, no matter how many hundreds of thousands of people that wanted one couldn't get it at retail.
I think I read somewhere they only made/sold 200,000 from release to end of year.

I think the only "rumblings" are that no one really cares anymore, including Nintendo
The people that wanted one in time for Christmas either sat in line to get one, paid a heavy price from a third party, or were smart and found a substitute console. Other people lost interest and moved on or built their own emulator.

BUT, since it looks like the controller is being discontinued as well, the theory is that they're just making way for a new SKU that just has a longer controller cord.

There are store managers from various Targets/WalMarts/Gamestops that are saying they got word that it's being discontinued on 1/31.

Don't believe it for a second. Even if it actually happens, the ridiculousness just continues to multiply. It's not like they didn't receive substantial feedback on this during the preproduction phase.

Just curious...why do you guys think Nintendo would shelve this? It's a profit machine that still has demand. It wouldn't make financial sense at all to stop selling them now.

How can you discontinue something that was never available? I was checking stock at my local Target and I think I only saw one or two days where it showed stock of 4 or 5 units.

Since they're totally different things at significantly different price points, seems like there's room in the market for both of them without one stealing focus from the other.
Well you may be onto something there
Or to keep the comparison of this vs a single joycon.

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be any reason to me to stop selling this. It seems like it would be relatively cheap to produce.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)
My guess (if they actually are discontinuing it) is that they can get more $ by selling these games on their Swtich storefront than if they were readily available for everyone on this machine. Greed. That, and/or Nintendo rarely makes financial sense.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)
That doesn't really make sense to me, since they've sold most/all of these games on numerous platforms already and I'd be surprised if their average user spent that much on VC games anyway. It's not like someone who missed out on this will say "welp, guess I have to drop $300 on a Switch."
