I think I'm just about done with this one. Hit a couple major plot and gameplay milestones last night, and all of my planets are at like 85+% explored. I imagine I'll finish up tonight.

This went from being just an okay game to top ten for the year for me.

Re: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (11/15/2019: PC, PS4, XB1)

Started this today. Ran through about an hour. I had no idea how similar to Tomb Raider it is. The last game I played was Shadow of the Tomb Raider. I usually like to switch up genres between games.

Only two minor gripes so far.
#1. Character design - the main character's jawline/underbite is bugging me for some reason. It just looks weird.
#2. Setting - Junkyard - cool, but it's pouring raining out on slick metal surfaces and the MC is climbing, jumping, rappelling, hanging from ledges, etc.? Okay.

Dumb complaints, but still.

I hate having to press a button to climb on climb able surfaces. You donít do that in Uncharted or Tomb Raider and you shouldnít have to do it here.

You have to use a button in Tomb Raider. Lara whips out her climbing axes, to scale rock surfaces otherwise she falls to her death.

Oh yeah. You are right. But there it makes sense because she has pick axes that she needs to wield to dig into rough rock surfaces. Here Cal just needs to use his hands.

Just finished this up. The last 10 minutes are something else, although I did bump the difficulty down to default for that last fight. Ive got things to do this afternoon and needed to be done.

Still, very good game.

Game takes place long before Rouge One.
It takes place roughly 5 years after Episode 3, therefore, it's about 15 years before R1.

Re: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (11/15/2019: PC, PS4, XB1)

Ugh. I’m so confused with this timeline now. Between the movies, this game, the series, I’m on such overload it’s so hard to keep track when the hell everything happened. I just googled real quick and said this game happened after The Mandalorian and before Rise of Skywalker. Just figured it was after Star Wars, maybe, didn’t know how long Darth was around before R1 and then Star Wars.

Spoiler:
And I’m pretty sure that’s actually Forest Whitaker voicing.

Still, this game is so much fun. I mean some of the puzzles are hard as hell. Like figuring where all the balls are using the newly acquired force push and hold and putting into holes and turn air valves on and off. I was going mad. I do admit to a little internet help via YouTube. I just couldn’t get it.

But everything else is just so Star Wars it’s giddily entertaining actually doing through video game what you always saw on screen. You control the destiny so to speak. This is the Star Wars game that Star Wars fans have long desired. Except for a few bugs/glitches and sometimes maddeningly hard traversals of the lands and using the holomap and all your powers thus far. Really well done and makes you feel like you did while watching so many glorious Star Wars movies and now this live-action series...

Well fuck this game. I had no idea I sucked so bad at games but apparently I do. I've died about a dozen or more times at the beginning of Dathomir and between that annoyance and the loading screens I'm annoyed as fuck.

Finally made it to the first Meditation ring. Time to throw in the towel for the night.

There's no shame in going down the the easiest difficulty.
In fact, after dropping it down, I ended up having more fun with the game.

Yep. I might have to do that. I'm supposed to be a Jedi damnit! I want to be a badass from the get-go.

Did you go to Dathomir randomly or when the story expects it (I don't know when or if the story puts you there; I'm just guessing on that part)? I went early on and struggled; eventually fought my way as far as I could get without upgrades I don't have yet. But that planet is a big jump up in terms of the normal enemies you face there.

I really don't like the elevator platforms which don't have switches to activate; the ones that just move when you stand there for a while. I again thought I was lost after my first trip to the Wookie planet; turns out all I had to do was stand in place for a few seconds to get the lift to start up. So stupid. I'm using a SSD in my PC as well. Any moving lifts like that should have visible switches to use so you know what it is.

I did the first planet you start on and the story mentioned that the old Jedi hid the Holocron(or next clue) on Dathomir so that's where I headed. There was a third planet where the story marker was so maybe I jumped the gun.

Yeah, for sure. If you went there first after leaving the starting planet, you're there too early. Like me, if you fought your way through you will hit a wall you can't go past without upgrades. Don't let that part discourage you from the fighting though. You'll get upgrades which make things much easier. I'm honestly not sure why that planet is even available to go to from the beginning?

I haven't gotten to Dathomir yet, but I bumped the difficulty down all the way pretty early on after dying a few times in a row to one of the beasts. I'm not trying to be stressed, just want to enjoy the ride.

Re: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (11/15/2019: PC, PS4, XB1)

Finished this up and got my platinum...in a bad year for games... my game of the year. Some of this was brilliant, but there were little things that just kept it from being the best star wars game of all time (behind KOTOR)....back tracking....combat spikes....confusing level design...

But oh so good at times...9/10

As someone who remembers waiting in line with his dad for Empire strikes back...and being amazed how many people were waiting...who had Star Wars everything as a kid growing up (bed sheets...underwear)...and having to deal with nothing but shit (outside Rogue One and a few games) since 1983...This year has been amazing for an old school Star Wars fan..with this and the Mandalorian.

Finally had another night to play, spent time on the hidden Jedi planet, mostly grinding to get through a big portion of the skill tree available. Do you all grind and wrap up the skill tree, etc. before you move on to the next area?

After finishing this, I totally understand and appreciate the reviews being embargoed for the sake of not spoiling the story. Personally, I found the final minutes of gameplay to be fantastic, and would've been furious if that were spoiled for me.
