All the physical copies of this were sold out at a couple area Best Buys last night, haven't seen that happen in a while.
It apparently sold 5m copies on day 1 worldwide.

Really? My Target still has plenty of copies of the regular version and the steelbook, for both systems.

Honestly I don't understand how anyone could praise the combat system. It's Kingdom Hearts 14 years later. And it's too frantic to enjoy what's going on.

I'm enjoying the game/adventure but the battle system is pretty stale so far. Since I'm one who tends to over-level, I can basically get through every fight by just holding down O while cycling through targets and wracking up combos. I'm hoping there's some actual strategy later on.

I think I should have played the tutorial on the battle system longer then just the first two lessons, I also don't quite know what i'm doing except mashing buttons, warping around, and occasionally telling the other guys to do something cool.

An article on "tips to FFXV before starting out" mentioned to not bother with the tutorial, as what you learn during the game proper is better than what you learn in the tutorial.

4 hours in and I can't say they've taught much of anything playing the game, except for some visual queues on blocking and warping. The brief parts of the tutorial I actually tried actually showed you how to parry

Yeah, skipping the tutorial seems silly. It takes maybe 5 or 10 minutes and you'll be playing the game for many, many hours, just do it.
Parrying is pretty easy though, you get giant button prompts when to block and parry.

Yeah I've read a handful of articles on what to do in the beginning of the game and what not and all of them said to make sure and do the tutorial except that one. Pretty strange. You should definitely do it, it's not that long and only helps.

You can also do some little training scenarios when you rest at camp sites. They usually involve doing something specific or utilizing a specific strategy and they award some AP.

Yeah, I noticed the camp training stuff, which i'll probably just do. It's really weird to me to have a tutorial before the start of an RPG, since at the time I just wanted to get on with it.
Just started Chapter 3. I'm never going to remember these character names

I'm very seriously considering abandoning this one. 5 chapters in and there is no trace of a story, any character development or end to the amount of fetch quests.

I'm only on Chapter 4, interesting that they're making changes to how things play later in the game and that they need to explain the story better.

Our early plans are to enrich certain aspects of the game, adding gameplay enhancements for Chapter 13, buffing ring magic, etc. We’ll have the specifics of what and when for you at a later date.
After that, we’re hoping to delve deeper into the story, adding scenes that will give you new insight into character motivations, such as why Ravus walked the path he did. We will need a little time with these, as they’ll need to be localized and voiced in other languages, but we’ll let you know the details once everything is set.
For the long term, we are looking at making certain key characters playable, and even considering the possibility of customizable avatars, in addition to other features over time.
Other features we have in mind include letting you carry over stats from a previous playthrough, and adding items that introduce new playstyles, such as low-level runs and god mode. We’re also examining readability tweaks - increasing font size - for certain languages. On top of that, we’re looking at content you can enjoy in real-time, including new bosses with exclusive rewards and achievements, and limited-time hunts.

Great, so now I should wait to keep playing the game? Maybe I'll just play like once a week and hopefully the Chapter 13 update will happen before I get there.

How monumentally embarrassing is that? Ten years in development and it's still broken. There are spoilers in that article btw.

Yeah, keeps me from wanting to play now, until they finish with updates. This sort of thing happens way too frequently, and while it's nice that these updates address issues to make the game better, it keeps me from wanting to buy them day-1, which hurts the developers bottom line.

The funny thing to me is that bugs are a different matter, since no QA team is perfect - it's that the story apparently is flawed enough that they have to go and fix it to make it make sense or more fun. Reminds me of Mass Effect 3.
That said, doesn't discourage me from playing it as is. At this rate who knows when i'll actually get to the chapter that they're making changes on.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit now. Around 25 hours in; level 42. Going through dungeons with nothing but the flashlight is fun.
